So I got a sweet deal on a first gen and couldn't help myself. I did a ton of research right here and built this sucker Friday night:

    image.jpg

    I started with a clean 03 6cyl 5spd with 125k

    image.jpg

    7 hours later:

    image.jpg

Wheeled it that night and the next day. Blew away my expectations even without the e-locker working.

    image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

This is actually a pretty gnarly trail in Northwestern MA that hosts different Jeep Jamborees. Only really had trouble on one step up without the e-locker.

    Specs:

883's w driver side trim packer
    Toytec diff-drop
    Dakars w aal
    Nitros all 4 corners

    285/75/16 KO2's
    Trail Teams SE Anthracites
    Spidertrax 1.25"

    ARB Deluxe Bull Bar
    Safari Snorkel

More to come! Thanks for all the help tacoma world!

damn you've done more to your first gen in 7 hours than I've been able to do to mine in 3 months of having it lol :( mostly just afraid to spend the $$.

Looks great! I love wheeling in my first gen. Their small size allows them to go just about anywhere.

Yep. Three of us do the work when I build trucks, so it goes pretty quick. The frame was replaced in the fall, so everything came apart easy. Front lift took almost no time at all.

Thanks. It's seriously capable. My buddy is thinking of getting rid of his jeep for one of these.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Nice find, looks like you got yourself a nice little toy! They're awesome off-road, what little I've done with mine that is. Toyota knows how to build a rock solid 4x4 setup!

Jack, jackstands, tires. Sway bar, top nuts, bottom nut/bolt. One guy installs presssembled struts, other guys pushed down lower control arm. Tighten it up, drop the skid, diff drop, done. It took maybe an hour or so

^^^ Well, to be fair, I had to rebuild my own struts... I also had one of the differential bolts so seized on that that it broke my breaker bar. My breaker bar got broken. Haha. I then had to drive into town an hour each way to buy another one. Then lunch. Then proceed. Different set of circumstances. :D

Great experience tho right??? Like I said, new frame was installed in the fall so everything came apart easy aside from front leaf bolts.

Oh yeah, not bad at all. It was good fun, even with the bit of frustration with that diff drop. I'm looking forward to doing the rear now. What I do have to figure out is how much work it would be to install an ARB locker. I'm trying to decide if I buy the locker and crack the rear diff open and install myself, or trade the whole axle for a prebuilt one with the locker installed (as offered from a few site sponsors here).

Haha, also trying to decide if I want to do 265/75R16 or all the way up to 285/75R16.

    Your truck looks great BTW.

    The 285's I have rub pre-alignment. I've also got 1.25" spacers.
