I have a question for you hvac guys . I have tried to research this but can’t get a straight answer .

I have a dual zone system on a 2 story house . Each floor has a thermostat .single heat pump system with a zone board that controls each zone dampener when to open and close .

My question is should the downstairs thermostat be set lower by 2 degrees than the upstairs floor for the summer or the other way around ?

    Cold air sinks.
    Hot air rises.

I think colder upstairs, and warmer down stairs would be "correct"

I'm not an HVAC tech, yet...

My house has dual-zone central air and gas heat, with two separate systems rather than zoning dampers on a single system; I also have a window unit in my bedroom because I like it cold. Whether the A/C is on or the heat is on, my parents and I always set the upstairs lower than the downstairs because heat rises...

You know more about home HVAC than I do.
I know how to open a wind and turn a fan on. That's about the extent of my knowledge on home HVAC.

I've never heard of any proper way to set a 2 story dual zone system. You should be able to set each to whatever you want and it will do it if working properly.

That being said if it were my house, I'd probably have both set for the same temp during the day and make the zone with the bedrooms cooler at night and let the other zone slightly rise since no one is there typically. I don't think there is a wrong answer as every house and every person is different.

The main purpose of a zone system is to ensure a desired temp in an particular area. I'd just set the thermostats where I wanted and walk away.
