Added the ARE to my 2013 yesterday and really like it. I'm just starting to build it up for overlanding. Its a 2013 with 50,000 miles. Coming from wheeling an FJ80 with a deck and drawer system the last 9 years the cap is a must for the Taco to fit in my stable. If I need a truck for the heavy lifting and hauling I have a 3/4 Cummins 4WD to take care of those needs the Taco is purely for the outdoor adventures.

Never thought about buying one until I found a color matched on craigslist for cheap. I like it having it.

Totally depends on what we use our trucks for. For me they work out great.

Actually I can't tell for sure from the side view. 100R has 2 latches on the back, 100XR has one in the middle. Both side windows are identical I believe. Either way it's a nice shell.

Seriously? Damn, that is a great deal. Those shells (with carpeted liner) are $1500+ brand new. Looks in good shape too. Great find.

I like my mine cause I can lock things up, work or play. Wish I had went with side door windows and carpet though. It would cost a fortune now to change it over. Oh well live and learn.20150329_115532 - Copy.jpg

    That sucks for you.

I've used an ice scraper on this current Leer and my previous (going back to 1999) and I've never know about this. My dealer never mentioned it to me either. Never caused any scratches at all.

My Shell/Topper provides a great roof over my old body if I sleep back there. The LB at six foot with a camper shell is a built-in mini-room to stretch out (I'm 5'10") for two. I also use it for dryness and safety of all my hunting/fishing/outdoor activities.

Perhaps I had a shit ice scraper!? LOL Not horrible, but I'm a perfectionist and it did leave light scratches very noticeable in the sunlight. I use 2:1 rubbing alcohol and water in a spray bottle now, kinda like the bottled shit in the automotive isles in winter. Works pretty good.

    Here's direct from Leer's website:

    Additional care and maintenance tips
    • Do not polish your cap or tonneau with a dry cloth. Always use water. To prevent hard-water spots, use a cloth to dry the cap after washing.
    • Do not use an ice scraper on the cap or the rear door glass. Brush off snow and ice.
    • Use touch-up paint to repair any nicks or scratches in the paint. Clear fingernail polish can be used as the clearcoat touch-up. Wait until the repair is fully cured and use rubbing compound and polish to regain the proper finish.
    • Use a UV protection product on all vinyl, plastic and rubber components to extend their life. These products should not contain petrochemicals, petroleum distillates or silicone oils.
    • Do not use any lubricants or solvent cleaners on the shafts of the struts. If necessary, clean them with water.

Never knew about the ice scraper. Used one on my Leer cap for 13 years with no detrimental results.

i absolutely love mine. the ability to secure my hunting gear is priceless. driving across the country to hunt, man..i cant imagine the looting that would happen if my truck was open.

i've slept in it on rare occasion and it isnt that sucky. ventilation sucks. i bought my truck used and it came with it. love it. took it off once to do some heavy lifting and moving, and that thing is surprisingly heavy. mine weeps a tiny bit in the biggest rain storms..if i'm driving.

cleaning it out, i put the front on ramps or some friend's steep driveway and climb in with a garden hose. easy peasy.

I love my shell. I can keep my bike and gear in the back of the truck while I'm at work. I can also keep my cab completely clean by relegating sh*t to the bed.
