So I have a 2003 3.4l V6 DC. I'm wanting to know what the truck would sound like if all I did is remove the cats and just put a pipe to replace them. Keep in mind that the oem muffler will not be touched. Only the cats.

Are you going for sound? Think they are restricted? They don't really enable any hidden power on these trucks.

My initial thoughts are you have oxy sensors that measure before and after the cats and provide input to the efi computer. Unless you were going to strip off the efi and go with a new intake and carbs I'm guessing that removing the cats will be more detrimental to performance than beneficial.

I gutted an old cat to put on my truck, sound was the same. Truck ran the same performance wise just a decrease in mpg. You might get a deeper/louder sound with a straight pipe and get the o2 simulator from URD to keep the CEL off and help keep mpg stay the same as if you the cat on

It will be a little louder with no cat, it will also have a little bit of that unburnt fuel smell. And set a check engine light.

A long tube header, highflow cat small resonator and a magnaflow sounds great for me. And zero rasp or drone.

Lack of cat = lack of proper fuel trims. It will never run correctly. Truuuuuuust me on this. If you don’t care about around town drivability and normally have it matted, yank it. If you enjoy a smooth running truck, leave it alone. It’s not a early 80’s Camaro . Your LTFT will never settle in. Good luck however you choose to go
