CB Issues

This seemed like a good place to post this. So, i've had this midland 75-822 for about 10 years now give or take. All of the sudden last week, it will not turn on anymore. I removed it from the hardwired base and tried using the battery packs, still nothing. This was my first CB, so i have nothing to compare it to, but what is the going life for a cb? I feel like this should have lasted longer, i'm not real sure how to go about troubleshooting this thing. Looking for some insight/advice. thanks!

 

did you take it apart and look for issues inside?

 

I did not yet, i'm not sure unless something is very noticeably wrong that I would be able to see if there were any issues.

 

you would be able to see a blown fuse if they have an internal fuse.
You would be able to see corrosion, a blown cap, etc...
Electronics do get old and break. And for 100 bucks, I can tell you they're not using top grade electronics in it.

Thats a good point. won't take me more than a minute to at least take it apart and see whats going on .

 

Nothing noticeable on the backside.



I bet this yellow wire is supposed to go somewhere though...

 

Did you find out where it goes and solder it back?

 

looks like it should go to the speaker. the only things on the front panel that need wiring is the mic and the speaker--the buttons are all carbon contact pads, which don't need wires. mic and speaker each need 2 wires to operate. looks like orange/brown go up to the mic. that leaves the speaker connection with the green connected, and the rogue yellow.

it's a problem, but shouldn't be the problem keeping it from turning on.

 

I didnt have a chance to contact Midland yet, hopefully try to send a message to their customer service today to try and figure out whats going on.

 

So, i heard back from Midland. I did not get a wiring schematic. I asked about them repairing it, they said since its out of warranty they will not work on it. But, offered 15% off if i choose to buy another unit. Which is still more expensive getting through them with the 15% off coupon compared to just buying it on Amazon LOL.
