Just installed a Uniden PC78LTW, wired everything up (power directly to battery, antenna mounted on the bedrail behind the cab). Anyway, so before I really routed the cables I tested the CB...and lo and behold it failed. I can get the weather info, but I can't seem to hear anything else, including static. Fiddling with the squelch also does nothing. When I set it into calibrate mode to test the SWR I get no readings (the little onboard thing doesn't move at all). So...any of you CB experts have any inputs? Its worth noting that I've tried various ground cables around the antenna. thanks!

Yea, RF gain up, volume up, squelch all the way down...can't get any static or anything. Its also worth nothing that when I key the mic the red light for transmit only comes on very briefly then it goes off and the display goes blank....but I would think even with a faulty mic I'd still get some sort of static with the squelch off

Good to know I helped a fellow member. I'm thinking your CB may have shit the bed, It happens a lot. You have any CB shops in the area that can have a look at it?

Looks like I do, I'll get in touch tomorrow. Is it generally something that can be fixed or is that not cost effective?

Some shops will bench test it for free and then take it from there. I guess it depends on how much you have into the radio and how much it will cost to repair.
