CB specifics

The description says it comes with a stainless steel 3 way mount but I didn't see one anywhere. Where are you planning on mounting?

 

I'm making a mount for beside the tailgate near the top of the box

 

Keep us posted on your install. I'm very interested to see someone mount a 980 SSB in a 3rd Gen.

LMAO!!! You guys are F'N KILLING ME over here!!!

You will need to purchase a stud mount because it didn't look like you bought the "fire ring" and/or something similar? Plus, how do you plan on routing your cable? Those PL-259 RF connectors are pretty BIG and you would tear a good size HOLE in the rubber gromett/plug located under your seat where some other wires are going through as well. The only real way I know of is that you would have to cut the end off, with the cable that you apparently purchased and re-crimp a new PL-259 connector. OR they sell mounting studs that you can solder on to, but soldering can be a bit of a PITA. Also, for that particular antenna, I would recommend getting a good size heavy duty spring as well like the ProComm Heavy Duty Barrel Spring and/or similar... and make sure to get stainless steel.

I got a firestik and had to solder the end on that they sent. First time for everything and it WORKED,. Mounted to the CBI mount on the hood

 

Were you able to get a decent SWR?

I wouldn't go any shorter than a 3' antenna! Your SWR is gonna start to go to shi*, even with a tunable. You're still fairly close to the cab (i.e. an interfering structure) for your RF.

 

I'll keep it just cause it scares the hell outta the girls at MD's when I stop for a burger for the dog. HITS every time.

The top is what I started with.... 1 1/2 " square rusty steel tube

 

I just got my setup in the mail today. I got the rirering coax with FME which means the PL259 connector threads on instead of needing to be soldered. Simply unscrew it to thread it through the grommet, thread the PL259 back on, and that's it.

I was gonna do a Galaxy 98VHP with the Wilson 1000. But instead put that in my work van with SWR 1.3.
But talked to Fine tune CB and was talked into the Ranger Rci2970N4. Having him tune it. Then matching it with the Sirio mag mount with the Sirio 5000 performer. He's changing the standard wire that comes with it to LMR240UF. Then using a external speaker behind the wireless Qi. Hope to get it high enough to hear it. Have no clue where I'm mounting the radio but I figure something out.

 

Would like to know if anyone has used/installed a PA speaker to the cb and which one?
