We're talking about 2 different things. The body of the plug, which has the threads on it and the side electrode, is steel. That part of the plug is the same regardless of whether it's copper, iridium, etc. It gets coated with nothing other than nickel to stop corrosion. A copper, or iridium, or platinum plug has the same thread body, made of the same steel, and the same chance of seizing in a head as all other plugs. Actually, the chance increases exponetially with iridium and platinum ONLY because of the extended service interval. Ford actually has an official broken spark plug extractor tool because of this problem, and a book time on some V8 spark plug changes approaching 8 hours.

The center electrode on ALL plugs is nickel plated copper. Iridium or platinum plugs will then either have a *tiny* disc of said metal bonded to the tip of the nickel plated copper center core only, or to the tip of the core *and* the underside of the side electrode.

Yes, platinum or iridium plugs, especially the ones with a bonded tip on both electrodes, will not visibly wear (increase spark gap) for an incredibly long time. But, from my 25+ years as an auto mechanic, they can "fail" much sooner than 100k in other ways. Usually it is through leakage at the base of the ceramic insulator- you will see a brown ring at the base of the white insulator. That is combustion leaking through the plug.

You do you, but I will continue to regap my copper plugs at 15k, and replace them at 30k.

Did you hear the one about the certified master tech who put his own truck on dealer lift for oil change and lube.
His taco folded in half and he was fired on the spot.
BTW I left :stirthepot: and:crapstorm:off my post.
I heard there is now a nasal spray for Old timers disease.
I'm on my way to Walgreens now.
    Should I pick up two?

Sounds like we had the same MasterMechanic, CoWorker/Instructor many years ago! Agree Oil has always been an effective AntiSeize for SparkPlugs. Thanks for sharing your insight & expertise!

Yes.. I think it would be possible to get 100k out of some sparkplugs with regular maintenance intervals. Thanks BlackDogLila for Insight on this matter:)

Yes agree Oil makes an excellent AntiSeize that has been recommended by OEMs for many years. Thanks Paetersen for sharing your Insight & Expertise on this.
