Cigarette Lighter Socket Removal

Well, what is possibly the simplest task has stumped me.

Who can tell me how to remove the cigarette lighter socket from the center console?

I have the dash apart and I've tried pushing it from the back, rotating it. No luck.

I tried searching but apparently no one was this incompetent.

This thing does not want to come out.

I've gotten it past the black tabs on the top and bottom but the inner metal sleeve it just stuck. I'm pulling on it will needle nose and pushing on it from the rear. It's about 3/8" out now but is giving a ton of resistance.

 

Finally got this figured out. The monkeying I did before realizing how it was properly removed gave me troubles.

If I had started by evenly pushing it straight out from the rear while pushing in on the two black tabs I think it would have come out much easier.

I never use the cigarette lighter socket and thought it would be nice to have some more USB power up front. It also has a voltage meter display. You could just get a plug in style power adapter, I think they even make some with voltage meters in them, but I thought this was a better look and less in the way.

Really all that is involved is sliding out your head unit and then removing the old socket and very slightly enlarging the hole (I used a dremel).

I had to make a small adapter harness for the power because the prong positions were not the same as the original cigarette lighter socket.

You can also get a dual usb flush to put right into the outlet. Two second mod.

 

Looks good but my tire pump and boat pump run on that thing so I need mine. I guess I could run it from the console one though.

Nice, I’m about to do this but really don’t want to put it in the engine bay, more money for mounts, etc.

Did you put the ARB twin in the stock bed box or have to cut it at all?

 

I replaced it with a BlueSea1045.

Honestly I just used a little pry bar and needle nose and and pulled on it using the prybar to work it out.

That’s what I thought, it’s open on the top for ventilation. I’m looking into it. May just do the high output single and find somewhere in the engine bay.

Slee offroad has a few mounts but they are difficult to order from sometimes

 

I saw that, but I thought they said they don’t work with the Sport?

 

Oh, I don't know, I have the offroad so maybe something else is mounted in that space on the Sport???

Yeah, I think it’s the brake booster or something there when I looked. The OR it’s open. I may just put it in the bed which might be easier.
