A new-to-me '98 2WD. I didn't even know I had a clock until this morning when I noticed these 3 tiny buttons just to the right of the steering column. My dead clock. Electrical problem solving is not my strong suit. Any suggestions? Thanx, Dave

Meh....the clock in my 99 was out 99% of the time. Then boom....clock was on until I hit the next pothole. Most likely a wiring short in the dash.

Dumb question, but is it plugged in on the back? I had my ignition switch replaced and the guy who did it forgot to plug mine in... same result. It is easy to check.

I don't see how to get at the back of the clock. I felt under the dash and felt solid plastic as far as I reached.

The clock on my 01 would go in and out like MTgirl described above. It's just the nature of these clocks. I ended up buying a used one from someone on here and it has worked since

One of the main issues with 1st gens. Almost everyone's clock fails eventually. The contacts ware out. There is a write-up on tw to either fix if you have some soldering experience. Or you can send it to this company on ebay that will fix it for you for $16 and then send it back. And yes it is plugged into its own wiring harness in the back of the clock.

The problem here is cold solder joints right? I'm guessing the solder joints break due to vibration and age.

If so, it's really damn simple to fix. Watch a couple soldering videos and buy a $5 dollar iron.

What were the Japanese thinking with putting a clock in the most inconvenient place ever and square cupholders is beyond me.

If you manage to pop out the clock and send it to me I'll see if I can fix it for free. I'm always looking into fixing things.

    I buy/sell/refurbish consumer electronics for a living.

If it's easy enough I might offer repair services on here. It sounds like an easy fix.

BartMaster1234, I appreciate the offer, but I'll poke around at it and if nothing obvious presents itself, I'll just forget about it. Thanx, Dave
