Hi i have been trying to figure out what the clunking noise is coming from the front end . i have a 2.4L manual 2WD 5 lug taco , the car runs and drives fine , trans shifts okay , but right on first gear i can hear a clunking nose when accelerating. it doesn't vibrate or anything just clunks under load. could it possibly be the drive shaft?

Not if you're saying the clunk is coming from the front? (You don't have a front DS)
    Possible suspects?
    -Lower ball joints
    -Wheel bearings
-Worn out rack n pinion bushings
    -Loose suspension parts
    -Loose brake pads/calipers
    -loose wheel lugs

Might wanna try putting the front up on jacktands (chalk the rear wheels, and engage the parking brake), and try recreating the noise by jostling things around a bit. Look for excessive play in any of the above mentioned parts.
