High beams quit working a while back when switch is flipped forward to high only. This also shuts off the low beam and leaves me in the dark (scary!). They still fire up fine when switch is pulled and held in. Both high and low beams work then, but it’s a pain to hold the thing in and steer.

I traced all this back to the steering wheel combo switch. Took it out and continuity tested everything and cleaned some connectors and the high beams worked fine again for a bit, but they’re crapping out again now.

What’s the cross compatibility on these things in 95.5-98 or whenever tacomas? Seems to be a lot for sale on the used market, but also seems to be a ton with different prefixes on the connector sticker. Image attached of the remnants of mine after it came off, for example. I think the “A48” is the magic number to match here.

Various JDM websites have different numbers on the sticker, but come from same model years. Same for the flea bay.

Haven’t started calling wrecking yards yet, but imagine they’re not going to be keen on checking stickers for me.

You need to be real careful with yards some are great some not so great.

Nothing like calling to see if a part is hand being told yes jump in the truck drive the 100 miles only to be told we must have sold it.

Have you cleaned the contacts on the switch sometimes that is all it takes

I have never seen the A48 referenced before only the 10 digit part number

    Good luck!

Cleaning contacts helped for a month or so last time I tried. Methinks I might pop it off and give that another go before trying a replacement.

Was browsing through switches here, and they seem to place some importance on the “A” number in addition to the part number. Looks like they had a lot of variety for various years! BUT, looks like you're 100% correct, when I search just the part number for mine (84310-04080) it looks like all the results show up with the prefix "A48."

I'm posting screenshot up from the 1996 service manual if anyone else finds this thread trying to solve combo switch problems and wants to test an existing switch.
