Component speaker install

I have a second gen and I have a set of Pioneer TS-Z65C component speakers I would like to install my self if possible. The crossovers are what I'm not completely clear about. How I think you wire them, correct me if I'm wrong. I think you cutt the factory tw harness which contains four wires and connect them to the wf wires and the amp wires which I'm guessing means input and the tw wire on the crossover just connects to the new tw. Any help would be VERY much appreciated!

 

you've got the right idea with the connections. instead of cutting into the tweeter wiring, get an adapter like this

that will plug into the factory connection, allowing you to change how it works, but also allowing you to change everything back to how it was from the factory should something happen, and you don't want to leave the new speakers in the truck. you just need to cut the loop on that adapter-- one side will be for the door speaker, and connect to the WF, or Woofer, the other side can be taped off--it goes back to the radio output, and won't be used if you're connecting an amp.

 

First off thank you for attempting to help me out but im still confused. So the two wire connectors on the harness itself what do they connect to? And in the loop you say to cut you said two of them get directly wired to my 6 1/2 and the other two just taped off? Sorry I'm pretty clueless about this stuff but I'm bound and determined to install them myself.

 

i had started to make a diagram, but wanted to clarify something.

are you installing an amp as well? or are the speakers connecting to the radio? trying to get an idea of how in-depth you're going with this, so i can specify the right connections for you.

Try to mount those crossovers in the cabin too. Mounting them in the doors exposes them to excessive moisture and forces from closing doors.

 

attached is a rough guide. the woofer wires should connect to two of the 4 wires in the plug-- one black/white pair will go to the door speaker, and the other black/white pair will go back to the main radio. i haven't ran across much documentation to say which pair is which, so you'll need to test for that.

while there's an argument that it's better to not install them within the door, it should actually be easier that way considering the 2nd gen has the tweeter at the top of the door panel. as long as it's kept to the inside of the plastic sheet within the door, it should be fine, and a lot easier to connect than trying to install within the cabin somewhere else and running extra wire into the door.

 

Thanks for the help. So you have to run the wire from the crossover labeled amp to the to the amplipher? If so is that normal for all component speakers? Every crossover I've found pics of usually says input not amp.

 

it is weird that it says 'amp', not 'input', but it's the same thing. that was why i asked if you were installing an amp for the speakers. if you were connecting to the in-dash radio speaker power(or the amp is connecting to the speaker wires behind the radio), your diagram would look more like this, using the same plug i previously linked, only using both sides of the wire loop that is cut.

 

There is a video of someone installing the same amp I have in a 3rd gen I've watched over and over. All the speaker wires input and output go from the amp to the head unit using a t harness so that's why I'm confused about running a wire from the crossover directly to the amp.

 

then you'll want to follow the video for the amp installation to the factory radio wires, and then follow the second picture i posted to install the crossover off the tweeter plug i linked to.
