Custom built enclosure

Hey fellas I got a wild hair last night and decided to build a box for the tacoma. I need to get my bumps haha. So I whipped this one out in a couple hours. Built to the hilt, this thing would probably withstand a nuclear blast. Tell me what you guys think. I have a Rockford Fosgate Power T1 that I'm gonna use and I designed the box to be tuned around 40 Hz. You guys think I should flush mount the sub or mount it normally. Also As far as covering it should I just go with grey/black carpeting or try to match it to the factory tan? I thought about vinyl but I'm afraid it would just get torn up...

I used to build boxes a lot during HS and for buddies so this isn't my first rodeo but I'm just curious as to what you guys think.

Haha.. kinda wondering the same thing actually. It'll go behind the drivers seat in the back of the ext. Cab. I curently have a sub box back there and I only ever have two other people with me. I mostly use the back of the cab for storing things in a dry, safe place. The jump seat on the passenger side will still fold down and whatnot.

 

Plus it has to be big to provide enough airspace for that T1 to sound decent.

 

Hope it fits back there. Looks to be built solid. If I'd known you were doing that I'd have told you not to use so many screws. Wood glue holds like iron so there's no need really. 40hz is pretty darn high of a tune but it will make noise for sure. Just be careful you don't play it too low because it will unload bad under the tuning point.

 

It's a T1... have you guys ever heard one hit? lol. Pounds. So. Hard.
I built it to Rockfords specs, and they said the T1 will sound best and work best in a slotted box tuned to 40Hz. I'm pretty stoked to hear it rumble.

 

how did you figure out how big to build it to get the tuning freq?

On the RF website they give you specs for how much airspace is needed in a ported enclosure for the best sound. They also provide the equation for tuning Freq based on the size of the port. Simply plug and play, simple calc from there.

I love my double cab but seriously miss the room of an extended cab for big boxes!

 

Well my buddy and I were really into car audio in HS, then I kinda got outta it. ANyways long story short, he had 2 12" P3's and 2 12" T1's laying around, he decided to put the 2 P3's in his old subaru Loyal (don't ask) and one of the T1's in his '06 GTO. He didn't want two T1's in there because it would blow the thing to pieces eventually. Anyways I bought the T1 and built the box the specs and threw the thing in the back of the taco. super happy with the results, the box makes it sound really good. i love my bumps. Now he's gonna have me build the same box for the back of his GTO.

 

Oh and my truck now officially bumps harder than any other truck in town with just the one T1. It sounds really clean.

 

it does look good tho i'll say that much. good job on it!

 

Well shit, I forgot to post pics of the finished product. Tomorrow I'll post up some pics of it carpeted and whatnot. It hits hard and looks awesome, I'm really happy with how it turned out.
