Damplifier pro VS Spectrum

I want to do as much sound deadening for my money... and i want to spend around $300. i like the idea that you can spray the Spectrum into every nook and cranny but it takes a day to fully dry.... i also like how fast it is to just spray it on. the only thing is that i haven't heard of many people using it. does any one have any experience with this or have any suggestions on the matter.

 

Just remember if you spray this in your doors that you will have to plan for the drain holes or you will end up with a door full of water. And the stick on is not that bad to work with you will have to do the same amount of work panel removal wise anyway.

 

I went with stick on tiles from sounddeadener showdown (better than damplifier) and I would say the affixing of tiles is the quick and easy part. If thats holding you back dont let it. Prep for spray would be FAR worse.

 

how many tiles did you get? and how much of your truck did it cover? they way im looking at it. i will need 195 of there tiles to get 80 square feet... so at $2.25 a tile thats $438.. $139 dollars more that a equivalent amount of damplifier pro... is the price difference warranted?

 

Go with mat style deadener (damplifier or CLD tiles) for sure. The liquid stuff doesn't do nearly as much. It's good in it's own respect but doesn't hold a candle to mat deadener.

 

And I've tried all of the above products in multiple installs.

 

You dont need 100% coverage. The floor is really well damped except a few areas and the stuff under your center console. You need a lot for the doors and the back wall... very little elsewhere. I did my roof and everything with under 70 tiles. The real cost for me was the mass loaded vinyl. I only spent like $150 or so on the tiles. It was a HUGE improvement. MLV was like $300 the foam I used was like $100 or so. The MAX you will need is inside the doors and back wall where you need at least 50% coverage. Everything else needs 10-25%.

I did 1/4" foam with MLV on top for the floor. I did 1/8" foam on the roof. The doors were a sandwich of 1/8" foam, MLV, and 1/8" foam. Tiles everywhere, even some in the kicks. You will be amazed how BAD the thin sheet metal resonates. It does not take much to knock it down a ton. I could have used twice as much and 100% deadeded the doors, back wall and roof, but that would be overkill and too much weight. My concern was to not loose sound due to resonant metal. I used more appropriate tools for actual sound deadening and blocking.

Oh I also blocked off all my door panel holes with a fiberglass foam sandwich material affixed with metal screws. Used Butyl tape to seal those and damp my intrusion bars.

I have spent about $600 in materials. It is far better than simple over kill on vibration dampner. I should be done Wed next week and expect pics shortly after.

SDSD tiles are thicker butyl and thicker metal backing. It works better with a smaller amount. It kind of sucks for putting around the panels you want to seal on the outside of the door skin. I want to say I have like 7 tiles total on the roof. Its not a bad area. Perhaps 6 n my rear deck about 4 on the rest of the floor. Front doors... 9 most of it on the inside. The metal of our doors is incredibly flimsy. I thinks its ridiculous to try to completely deaden a door that will bend and flew no matter what. It moves even if you use the power window.

Have you considered RAAMmat? They make a good product and it is less expensive than Damplifier. The entire surface does not need to be covered, just use the tap test to make sure you've killed the resonance and seal off the front and rear sound waves from each other.

 

I looked at RAAMmat but i liked the other brands better. I emailed Don and got one email back, waiting on a second reply. anyone know how to actually order stuff from his company? there is no order page on his sight.

Do it by email and give him the measurements he asks for then IMO add 10%. He is super helpful and super fast on shipping etc. You can also call him and make an order by phone. Thats how I finalised my order.

His stuff is absoloutely awesome. Sticks way better than anythig and that includes his velcro for MLV. I used 5 half strips to hold up each door and its plenty. The tiles stick twice as good as Dynamat. His packing is without peer IMO.

 

I used second skin products on my last truck. I think the roof is always under-sound proofed, regardless of vehicle. I would personally start there to cut down on wind/rain noise. I used Damplifier Pro topped w/ Overkill.
From there, I'd move to the doors. Careful of how much you use on them though, b/c significantly weighing down the doors will really stress the hinges.
Btw, be careful of the foil backings. It can cut you rather easily
