Dangers of brake drag?

Have had passenger side drum dragging for a couple days due to e brake cable being fubarred. Cant get shoe to fully release. Today noticed my wheel and drum had really heated up. Had rear wheel lock up pulling out of parking spot.

Am I gonna damage anything if I wait til Sunday to pull the cable off?

Am I destroying my brake shoes or drum by driving 10 miles a day with all the extra drag?

Am I cooking the oil in the rear diff?

Its not good, can you adjust the cable off? Or back off the shoes?

If you pull the plug off, its a pain, but you can back off the shoes slowly and it should get you to the weekend.

 

I can probably pull the console off tomorrow and take off the tensioner nut. I am assuming that is the easiest way to get some cable play?

Do these have the little star wheel behind the inspection cover? Usually you can spin those to back off the shoes.

 

No sarcasm... dragging brakes can catch fire

 

Especially with a touch of an axle seal leak haha.

 

Good to know! Had never heard that, but it makes sense I suppose. I will try to release the cable tension before I drive it to work tomorrow!

 

It does have the star wheel, but when I tried to crawl under to adjust the ebrake cable in the Fall, I had a hell of a time getting it to turn through the window with a flathead scredriver. I adjusted it when I did the rear shoes and had the drum off.
