I thought I would share my lates texperience with Toyota, about my melting DRLs. First I called the factory and explained my problem. They immediately said they would pay $300.00 toward the parts. They also told me to ask my local dealer for help. After showing the dealer a copy of the e-mail from Toyota, the dealer agreed to forgo the labor. The total bill came to $446.00. After the factory's $300.00 I ended up paying $146.00 for 2 new headlight assy. I didn't think I should have had to pay anything, but overall I guess it wasn't bad.

Were the lights totally stock? If so, were you still under warranty? If you were, yeah, you shouldn't have paid a dime.

The new lights were supposed to be an updated version. My Tacoma has 45,000, so the warranty had expired.

The dealership is Toyota of Kingsport.
The DRLs are part of the headlight. Before I got them replaced, I removed the bulbs. That killed my DRLs and turn signals. Everything else worked. The new light assy had a different part number than the original P/N. The dealer gave a copy of the TSB which stated for the dealer to install the new P/N.
