Not sure about how to do the suggested setup with the crossovers though, since I don't think I can dedicate a channel to my tweeters without blowing them.

 

why would you blow the tweeters?

 

I want one, but in still waiting for a dash kit

 

The user interface is nice on it and all the function's seem to be really nice. I played with one on a showroom wall but chose the Kenwood KDC-X996 as it has the same features, a little cleaner face plate, doesn't have that little silver click knob, and it's a little cheaper.

 

Rated at like 50 watts. If they had their own channel... I'd be at 75 watts.

 

Do you have an external amp? I ask because that HU is only rated for 14w RMS according to Crutchfield.

 

I never use deck power. Pointless waste of energy that they ever try to put out power.... I don't care how special the deck is, it sounds like shit if you use its power. I'm running a JL 300/4 to my components.

Ok I was just making sure that you weren't confusing Max power for RMS power while running off of HU power. That amp doesn't have gain settings for each channel? If it does you can hook it up to a mulit-meter and adjust the power to meet the RMS of your tweeters.

 

I really want this hu. If you end up buying it and not liking it, I'll trade you for my Sony DSX-BTX310 and some cash.

 

I don't really attribute gain settings to 'power output'. All I have to do is turn up the volume and that power changes, therefore it is dynamic. As long as I keep my tweeters in series with my woofers than I feel comfortable that I'm not overpowering them.

I'll keep you in mind. I haven't fully decided if I'm going to pull the trigger yet, few hundred dollars in vet bills is curbing my interest in spending money this month.

 

The only reason I want that Pioneer is because I want to go active and the Sony isn't capable of that. Otherwise the Sony is a fantastic deck.

Brian, I pulled the trigger an bought this unit today. I'll let you know how it turns out.

 

Setting the gains on an amp will prevent too much power from getting to a driver. independent gain control and crossover controls are the big benefits to going active, along with the time alignment this deck provides.

No reason to fear for the tweets, you are simply moving from a passive crossover to an active one. Lots of us run active and love it. Take the plunge.

 

Anyone that owns this stereo, how is the ipod interface? Is it quick? Intuitive? Enquiring minds want to know

 

I had the 80prs before i upgraded to the p01. For the money, IMHO there is no better headunit for the features especially SQ wise in that price range. You get 16 bands of graphic EQ which you can set independently for the L/R side, TA, and the ability to run 3-way active. If you dont know anything about settig up an EQ, that's ok too, because it has an auto EQ which you set up with the supplied microphone hookup. The ipod interface is silky smooth, the best one of any of the companies (Alpine's comes close), it is really effortless to use, thanks to the big rotary knob. Not to mention the fact that it has 3 Burr Brown DACS (one dedicated for the highs, mids, and lows) and a direct digital connection to your ipod. Great little unit, definitely want to run active to get the most for your money if you decide to buy. Hope this helps, good luck!

 

I agree with the above. I can't believe the sq and options this deck has for the price. I learn something new everyday (only had it for two days). I was a little hesitant to run active, but now I will never go back to passive again.
