The same shit everyone else has.
I was gonna post this in the detailing forum but there isnt a ton of traffic in there.

My frame and fenderwells need a good detailing. When I clean my truck, it looks really good until you look at the fenderwells. They show 5 years/85k miles of dirt and other shit.

I know most of you guys on here beat the shit outta your trucks and dont think twice about cleaning them, but Im sure theres enough people on here like me who clean their trucks 3-4 times a week.

For those of you who are obsessed with keeping you trucks clean, what do you do with your fenderwells and visible sections of the frame? Im pretty sure Im past the point of just scrubbing them and coating everything in tire shine.

Id like to clean up the little bit of visible rust then spray everything in something. Im just not sure what. Bedliner? Undercoat? Chip guard? Chassis paint? Por15?

I know this has been discussed before a few times as I remember seeing some threads, but I dont remember any specific details.

My truck spends a lot of time in the mud and woods on fire roads and state forest roads when Im hunting and fishing. so I need something I can maintain with ease. I want to be able to hose out the wheelwells at the carwash with the high pressure rinse and all the mud come out of them and them be black and shiny underneath.

Id love to hear what others have done.

    Thanks

You aren't doing total washes 3-4 times a week are you? If so you probably aren't washing and detailing properly with good products. When you use quality products and methods, it's amazing how clean a truck with stay with little in between maintenance. If you are taking your truck off the pavement frequently, I would look into some good sealants and waxes that will help protect your paint as well as keep it cleaner for longer.

I like Chemical Guys stuff, but I'm am amateur so take that for what it's worth. I know both they and Adam's Polishes make an underbody spray that is supposed to work very well. I personally would not use a cheap tire dressing only because you don't know if there are products in it that can be harmful for things like your wheels (if you have after market ones), brakes, rotors etc. I would use something specifically for what you want.

I detail my truck very frequently because I'm very particular about it, but I don't detail the underbody. I never see it so I really don't care. I just take care to really wash inside the wheel wells with a good power wash. When it comes to the painted part of the fenders that go into the wheel well I just make sure to clay bar that when I clay bar the vehicle, then during maintenance washes I have a clear coat safe bug sponge that I run in there. When that lip is clayed and waxed it makes debri very easy to keep off.

I use a dedicated flagged tip brush and some degreaser on mine then coat it with a mist of Chemical Guys Bare Bones. It leaves mine shiny and seems to repel dirt and what sticks comes off fairly easily with the hose.

I use Amazing Roll-off and then brush and wash mitt, then spray with Griot's Garage Undercarraige spray. Super slippery stuff but keeps everything looking new for a while.

    Thanks for the tips.

The exterior of the truck is super easy to maintain. The paint gets cleaned and Optiseal'd yearly.

The trucks gets an actual bucket wash about once a month or so. Inbetween, if really dirty, it usually gets a quick wash with Optimum No Rinse. I hit it a few times a week with a quick detailer just to keep it clean and this maintains the exterior pretty well.

The underside of the truck has never been detailed before. So there's 85k miles of shit all over everything.

I would like to correct this. The frame has small spots of surface rust in it, mostly where there are weld. These will need more than just a dressing.

As for most of the plastic liners and splash sheild, they've since discolored to a dull grayish finish, even after cleaning them wth Purple Power or Simple Green. I'm afraid just scrubbing them and then dressings them will still result in dirty looking wheel wells
