Cutting the frame off in sections, up to the cab now. Plan is to drop remaining frame with engine and transmission down, and lift the cab high enough to wheelbarrow it out from under.

Damn that’s an ambitious project.

What’s the backstory of the truck?
    Did you just get it?
    Buy it new?
What was your process to decide to take this on?
Where’d you get the replacement frame?
Are you doing this by yourself?
    Are you photographing/documenting everything?
    Before, after pics?

Regarding replacement parts- do you have any salvage yards near by? Try the online guys.

Thread title is a bit misleading and doesn’t represent what it’s about.

    Subbed

    Good Luck!

Are they welded to the frame?

That bracket is part of the charcoal canister I believe. I do not think they sell it individually. You can get a new canister for like $250 from Rockauto. I've had mine for almost 4 years with no problems. Or find your local salvage yard and you can probably get one cheap but it'll be a tossup whether it's OEM or not

It’s my first Tacoma and my first frame swap? Do you have a better suggestion for the title?

I just got the truck, I’m like the 11th owner, originally from New York hence the frame rust. I bought it knowing it needed frame repair but there wasn’t enough left to weld to once I pulled the bed.
Got the frame from a guy I met here for $500

Yeah that’s why I asked here. Tacomas get picked clean at the local junkyards immediately, but they all know what I’m looking for and have my number!

My profile pic is what it looked like when we pulled the bed off; the springs literally taco’d the frame where it was rusted through. I would guess 1 in 3 bolts I’ve removed so far haven’t broken. I’m bagging the survivors and labeling the bags, attaching to the part when possible. Color coding all my connections with zip ties.

You can see my color coding here.

should I post this somewhere else or change the title? Not trying to mislead anyone, just documenting the process and looking for tips from people with more experience

My 17 year old is helping some, mostly just the heavy lifting :) he’s pretty busy with his motorcycle but he’s usually in the shop when I am.
I’m taking pictures constantly, I haven’t posted most of them because they are just for reference when I start putting it back together.
Once I realized there was no saving the frame I hit all the local junkyards and have looked through car-part.com, eBay, classifieds here, etc.

If youve got it off anyway id do the front if you do plan on offroading it. I bent my frame at one point, after I pulled it back I just started on engine cage but maybe that reinforcement would have saved me the headache?

The rears I agree, just do it.
