DIY lowered 2nd gen.

So I really want the SOS lowering kit for my truck but my coworkers and I were dead at work due to snow so we lowered ourselves for fun. It’s temporary as I still am going to go with the SOS kit later but I think it looks good for now.

We took the “pre recall” leaf springs we had laying around and removed the center leaf. The “pre recall” leaf springs was the three leaf setup before the updated four leaf came out. So that lowered the rear a good bit.

As for the front we did it the dirty way and cut the coil springs. We removed the springs off the struts and measured one inch off the bottom of the spring and went to cutting. I’m not to proud how the springs fit into the struts but it looks pretty good also.

Like a said this was the work of a bunch of guys bored at work but overall I’m shocked by how good it looks. I ultimately want the SOS kit to feel more secure how it is lowered.

Man. I've been wanting to reverse lower the back of mine for a while now.. how bad the the ass end of your truck bottom out? Its really the only thing stopping me at this point, because I don't want totally ruin how my truck rides. How's your payload capacity? Could you send a couple pictures?

 

Thanks bud! The 5 spoke wheels had 265/65R17 tires. Then we played around with the new 6 spoke Tacoma wheel with 225/65R17 tires. Last but not least the old FJ BBS wheels with the same 225/65R17 tires as the 6 spoke. I hope when I eventually do the SOS kit that it looks just as low. My ultimate goal will be 20” limited 4Runner wheels.

 

The 45 minute ride home was smoother than expected. The rear never bottomed on the bump stops but it did bottom out on the shocks. With only one leaf back there it’s pretty weak. I doubt I could put much in the bed. I will get more pictures later.

@Scwilson have a question about your 3rd gen what year 4 runner springs did you use?

 

The last time I cut a coil it was wildly uneven side to side even though we measured it haha.

Do you plan on doing the proper axle flip? We've only done it on a tundra but it works awesome.
