DIY Window Shade Templates

I made sun shades for my Tacoma many years ago, and they were starting to look a bit worn. With the summer heat in full effect I decided I wanted to make a fresh set. So I traced the old ones, scanned them and cleaned up the lines on my computer. After a few revisions I compiled the scans into PDFs and have them ready to share.

The attached PDF templates are for the two side windows for an Xtracab and the rear window. To make a set, you'll want to use a roll of Reflectix at least 2 feet wide, this is the one I used: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Reflectix-...ive-Roll-Insulation-24-in-W-x-25-ft-L/3011904
You should need less than half of a roll.

Print the PDFs with no margin or as small of a margin as your printer will allow. Tape the pages together, and then cut out along the lines. Trace the template onto the Reflectix, and then cut it out.

The windshield is tricky, and I don't have a template for it. But if you cut a 52 inch length of 2ft wide Reflectix and adjust the corners to your liking you'll be close.

These shades are meant to be tucked into the gap between the window and the body, they should provide a tight fit. If they are too tight you can trim them down. They aren't magic, but they help keep the interior surfaces cooler on hot summer days, and should help protect the dashboard and plastics from UV damage.

I use Reflectix on the interior of the windows on my East facing garage doors, here in sun-intensive New Mexico. They are very effective at reducing the heat transfer. When I put my hand betweeen the window and the reflectix the heat is intense; not so on the in-garage side of the reflectix.

p.s. I don't want to leave the wrong impression. Although New Mexico has ample sunshine, folks often assume we are in the category of Phoenix and Las Vegas NV regarding heat/weather. We are not. Albuquerque is mile-high. Until very recently, 100+ degree temps were very rare, and we frequently get snow in winter.
The clear skies and high altitude sun intensifies the sun's direct heat, but find shade and a slight breeze and with the low humidity, outside can be pleasant in the summer.

Should be fine, my laser prints with a similar margin. Tape together the full 8.5 x 11 sheets, connect the gaps between the lines, cut it out and give it a test fit.
