DNX5120 question

So i bought the DNX5120, "installed" it the ipod cable, and the metra

$66 TYTO-01 JBL Amplifier Interface Harness, BLACK

TYTO-01 kit. Also tried the Pac Swi Jack, but couldn't get the piece of shit to work so i removed it. Anyways, and i posted this in another thread, when the music is playing, it seems to go up and down...or from muffled to unmuffled, its not much difference, but enough to notice, especially at higher volumes. Doesnt matter if truck is on or not, or moving. I pulled the goddamn thing out again, and checked the wires, everything seemed ok. Not sure what to check, doesnt seem to matter if the Ipod is playing or the radio, did the updates for kenwood and the garmin...not sure if i should dick with it more, try sending it back or have someone who knows what they're doing, do it.

 

Could be that your speakers cannot carry the RMS versus the wattage and it is slipping back and forth. Your RMS is a constant or continuos cicuit to where as wattage is not which is why you will usually see that the RMS is lower than the wattage rating. I could be worng, but if you are still using stock speakers you may be experiencing this. just an idea. Also does yours ystem have the JBL stereo and if so did you get the adapter for the amp? I don't think you can install without that. I have the same radio and have had no issues. May also have a bad unit, happens. Food for thought.

 

Yeah, got the metra "Toyota Amplifier Interface", since i have/had JBL system.

I had it working fine for a couple of days, had it in just no dash kit, while i was trying to figure out the pac swi jack, which ended up being wired wrong...but still couldnt get it working even after i rewired it. ANyways i dont recall the volume issue before, with the jack in, just now, but i pulled it out today and everything was tight. bleh

 

Well your speakers will hande the load no problem with the JBL system. You had your radio bolted in just no faceplate right? You may want to call the place you bought it from. As long as your radio wasn't bouncing around inside the dash. I can't see anything else on that would have brought harm.

 

Sorry for delay, was out of town, no it was bolted down when i had it on w/o the faceplate. I took it all out again, and rewired it, no change. I did put the stock stereo in and turned the stereo up, Kenwood seemed kinda quiet. Anyways no real change...i guess ill dick around with it a bit more, had a CD in earlier and it didnt fade in and out, didnt sound that great though. Maybe its the ipod conector. Either way it seems to just be the front speakers.

 

does the jbl box that came with the harness have a seperate "volume" control on it ? i know the gmos-04 do for chevy vehicles . . . also may be a bad harness . . . or bad rca's . . . i'm assuming your running it through the front and rear rca ports ? the kenwood only has 2v pre outs . . .

 

Well called the place i bought the unit from, they said it sounded like the harness. So i called them, and they had me reset it, didn't work...gonna try it one more time. Have to unhook the battery for 10 minutes then turn the truck to on then off 3 times. If that doesn't work metra told me to call them back. May just of gotten a bad harness, the guy i talked to initially said they are all the same thing regardless of the manufacturer. Guess next thing depending on what metra says is purchase another harness see if that remedies the issue. ><

 

Well the place on Ebay i bought the harness from traded me for another. They claimed to have never heard of the problem, but i got a new one anyways, i had to pay s/h both ways, but the new harness seems to have fixed the fading problem.
