I have a DNX7140 installed in the dash of my Taco.

Since I've had it, it's locked up frequently. The dreaded "GPS Firmware Update Complete". Then Kenwood released a set of software updates that specifically addressed the issue. I found that out from a nice long chit-chat with their "support" group. Got the update installed, things were good for a couple of weeks then it started again.

More chit-chat then sending it to their authorized repair center. It came back with the note "firmware successfully installed". Great. I did that already but hey, maybe there was something I missed?

Today, it wedged again. Less than a week after its re-installation. So, back to the dealer I went. This time, the claim is it will either be fixed or a new one will come back.

Anyone else experienced anything similar to this problem?

every once in a blue moon when i click on gps it will say locating satellites and the gps wont work until the next time I start it up. It also says firmware update complete and keeps doing that until the next time I start it up. Overall I am very pleased with it despite that.

With mine, the only option is to reset the thing with a paperclip. PITA.

Well, I got the unit back today. This time, the service center replaced the navigation board. This one also has a fairly recent software version on it (has some ecochallenge thing on it).

So far, hard to tell. Hopefully this time it's actually fixed.

So the story has a better ending. The unit was still having issues with freezing. It did get a new navigation board during one of it's trips back to the repair center but that didn't fix it.

Kenwood replaced the entire unit with a DNX7160. Just got that today. I'm sure this is the end of the problem. Took a while to get to that but I'm glad it's done.
