Doug Thorley Headers

this is what my short Doug Thorley Headers look like after 2 years. They want me to uninstall them, cut them send them back to be re-coated. I cant be with out my truck for that long, it sucks big time.

 

Anybody have some headers that are holding up better, I got to replace these POS.

 

Your truck a 2012+?

Are those made out of mild steel? I thought all newer versions were of the 304 ss material?

 

That would just seem ridiculous to have the cats cut off,to be re-coated, to then have to pay to have the cats reinstalled. Timely and expensive. I wonder why they cannot just sand blast the whole header?

If anything, I'd have somewhere else sand blast them then have a nicer ceramic coating used. As that coating is adequate but not the best. Clearly.

 

Making me think twice before buying.

 

Could always get it quality ceramic coated prior to install.

Hmmmmm I was just about to get a set of these as well. I mean, its not deterring me from buying them, its just making me think I should go get them recoated before installing

 

why are these looked at as superior to the jba headers?
(i'm aware that that could be a stupid question... just asking)

300 series SS instead of 400 on the JBA

 

installed mine in 2012 and they still look fine?

 

JBA are all mild steel. Doug Thorley should all be 304 ss. Looks like the OP spends a lot of time near the coast, and/or deals with salted roads.

 

Couple of trips up north, but they shouldn't of rusted like that. What sucks is how they want me to cut them of the cats. I was thinking go JBA's long, no smog here in S.Carolina

I was thinking DT headers but now I'm rethinking it as well... As far as having them coated before initial install thats BS. When you spend a crap load of money on a product it should need to be "made better" with more money.. Just my 2 cents

 

Mine are worst than that but i'm living up north. Everything will finish rusty so i dont bother too much with that. Look at a premium quality coating like http://www.jet-hot.com/ and you ll seee that it is very expensive.

Has anybody tried call in and asking if they will send out their uncoated finished headers to be coated by another company? If they are even willing to do so?

 

This is their response to a BBB complaint, they fail to mention I have to cot the cats off.
Doug Thorley Headers went outside of our standard warranty policy and offered to re-apply the ceramic coating to the customer's product, even though rust is expressly not covered. We feel we offered a solution that goes beyond what we are required by our policies, and that solution was unacceptable to the customer. The offer stands open that if the customer would like to ship us his used product we will re-apply the coating free of charge.
