Just wanting if someone can help me on the 2018 Tacoma TRD
Just wondering about the ECT power button if you can leave it on all the time and drive with it and if there will be any harm to the transmission ?

I don't think you'll do any harm. In fact, there's some threads here on guys who'd modified their trucks so the ECT button turns on when the truck is started, as they prefer that driving method. I believe that mod is a couple years old, so if it was a problem, then it likely would have been mentioned by now.

You have to push it every time you start the truck unless you buy the handy ECT on all the time module found in the classified section. Won't hurt anything but your gas mileage.

    None as of yet
wont hurt anything. All it does is change the shift points. Other manufactures call the same feature tow/haul mode. No, it doesn't boost the power.

It's different than the standard layout but it gets weird in different ways. Sometimes it just revs too high when going at a steady city speed. There's no middle ground with this truck.

All or nothing. Welcome to the retarded 3rd gen ECU. Orange Virus is a tuner on here and trying to iron out all the driveability issues.

I'm sure enjoying my stay. As curious as I am about OV tune I don't think I'm there yet. I still have all kinds of other things to try first like making an ugly scene at the dealership service dept, getting on a first name basis with corporate, buying a bus pass, trading in for a Frontier...you know the usual tings.

If I'm not going over 60 mph, I use it. Consistantly get 18-20 MPG.

The Toyota explanation of the ECT is it changes just the shift patterns. I have been driving with the ECT on mod since August (with the Mesojdm's splice in mod). I have noticed better throttle response and better gas mileage on short trips. My highway mileage is great (20+ MPG). Also wheeling is more responsive. I got 16 MPG for the hour at Box Canyon< I usual get 11 (I was raging on it).

I also bought a Intake Flow Accelerator (see below) Instead of spending $450 on the TRD CAI, replace the parts that turn the factory CAI into a TRD CAI. I already got the TRD filter last October. So I bought the Intake Flow Accelerator ($25 from ToyotaPartsDeal.com). The intake is much bigger and not blocked by the mud deflector. The Intake Flow Accelerator and the filter are the only non-cosmetic difference from the TRD CAI. The left one is the Intake Flow Accelerator...the right is the original intake. it goes in the wheel well. Easy mod.

I've been driving with both mods since October 2017. I noticed and increase in millage on short trips. It increased more with the Intake Flow Accelerator and the ECT. I'm pulling 17 MPG on 5+ mile trips in town and 22 mpg on the freeway. I have seen as good as 30 MPG at 65 on the freeway. Also, the wife asked if I did something to the trucks engine...it went faster.

Both of these mods are easy. Especially if you get Mesojdm special mod...see his post below.

My next thought is a Cat back exhaust and the URD Y-pipe. air in is good...now for air out. I'm concerned with thew Adkins cycle needing to recycle the exhaust at lower RPM. I'm also concerned about the truck sounding like a leaf blower.

MESO doesn’t appear to make the ECT MODULE anymore?
