Electrical System Help

This is going sound really dumb, but I was trying to test an old battery by hooking it up to our tacoma, and when I attached it, I got the positive and negative mixed up. When the positive connector touched the negative part of the battery, it sort of grabbed on and stuck to the battery for a couple of seconds before I could disconnect it. When I put the good battery back in, the truck wouldn't start. All the lights on the dash come on when I turn the key, but nothing happens. The power locks and windows don't function. But the alarm/horn sounds anytime I open the hood or the door. I checked all the small (7.5,10, 15) fuses under the hood and replaced one that looked busted. I'm no mechanic (obviously), but I'm wondering if there is something I can check and try before I have the truck towed to my mechanic. Thanks for any help.

 

Could possibly be a fusible link or your alternator burnt out as well, if your lucky.

 

If you have confirmed that the cabin fuses are good(especially the IGN fuses), I strongly suggest that you check the 120A alternator fuse.

 

Definitely blew the ALT fuse. 140A with a factory tow package. 120A without the factory tow package.

And just like that. 1 post and done.

 

This. You blew the big boy.

Hopefully it did it's job and protected other important (expensive) stuff.

Suggestion. Next time you need to 'test' a battery, take it to a parts house. They'll do it for free.
