EMERGENCY BRAKE LINE HELP

I WAS INSTALLING MY REAR EXTENDED SS BRAKE LINES EARLIER TODAY, AFTER A FEW HOURS OF HAVING TO SAND THE TIP OF THE BRAKE LINES ON TRUCK BECAUSE THEY FAN'D OUT SO THE NEW BRAKES LINES WOULDNT GO IN. I TRIED TO GET A PIC OF IT BUT WOULDNT COME OUT.
i just noticed im typing in all caps... lol...
but i drew something up to show what i mean, i was able to get 1 line in and the other one only bolted in on one side but the last one that needed to bolt in wouldnt go in because the threads on tip of brake line on truck is damaged, i want to know if that tip can be cut and if a new nut can be put on it and pressed.... otherwise im screwed as ill have to tow it to dealer to get that line on truck changed out.

 

Male fittings for brake lines are replaceable. Only problem is, you have to cut the double flare off, replace the fitting, and make a new flare. OR, the threads can be filed and repaired(not usually).

Double flare tools are for rent at autozone. Practice on a spare piece of line first. Get a union and spare male fittings too, in case you have to make a splice further back in the line.

 

i had to cut off the oem brake line and cut into the first 5 threads, had to cut off brake line due to that fitting being fan'd out. i dont want to take it to dealer as they will say whole line needs to be replaced and then i'll be without an arm an a leg... thanks for your advice will try and find someone to cut and and re-flare... what do you mean my flare is that the piece with the threading?

 

Most brake lines have a threaded compression nut that slides on before the end of the line is double flared.
I'm looking for a how-to...

sweet just saw that you put that autozone rents the tools... ill check that out tomorrow... thanks for your help... will try and do it myself tomorrow if not ill have to go to the pro's.

 

It takes some practice and elbow grease on steel lines, but is do-able. Start early. A.Z. is only open so long

 

just saw that diy... so any place will sell the male tip and at autozone i can rent the flaring tool. but how can i connect the one i cut on the truck? saw that you put union somewhere but does that get or welded or just self tightening? also if i just make one long brake line from where it connects under my drivers side door to the rear line is the tubing strong enough?

 

Cut farther back, add new fitting and flare, make new jumper line with union=no leaks.
That's how you make up for the brake line you cut off for the new flare and fitting. If you get lucky, you won't need the extra parts. You might be able to put in the new fitting and flare with the other line taking up the slack... maybe.

 

thanks a million man i was able to cut the flared tip of the brake line, i rented the flaring tool at pep boys and bought 3/16" x 10mm i guess its a nut? not sure but fit like a charm no leaks at all, my pops helped me pump brakes while i bled them and braking is improved with the ss lines. once again thanks for all your help you saved me an arm and a leg....
