Fellas my Tacoma has been down a couple weeks while I finished up the lift. Last time I drove it the cel came on, it was p0115 ECT sensor. Ran and started up just fine all day. Fast forward after 2-3 weeks of sitting now it will just spin over. It hit one time but won’t start at all. The scan gauge still reads out the coolant temp and all.
Would the sensor just be bad? I do believe it’s the oem sensor.
    Thanks for any help!

I don't think the coolant temp sensor should prevent the engine from starting, but it might make it harder to start or idle when cold. The computer will go into fail-safe mode and assume the coolant is at normal 180°F running temperature when it throws P0115. Even if you unplug the sensor the engine should still start. I'd guess you have another problem.

You can also test the sensor with an ohmmeter and compare it to temperature/resistance chart.

Well I just spoke to a relative of mine and he has a 04 model with the 3.4L same as mine. He had a rodent chew the wires into to the ect sensor and it wouldn’t start either. Replaced it and it started right up.

UPDATE: So after a pain in the @ss ordeal I got the coolant temp sensor replaced and it still would not start. Just crank over. Took a bit of starting fluid to see if it would try to start and it ever so slightly would spin faster. Finally after several failed attempts I got someone to crank for me while I sprayed the ether. It spun for a bit hiccup then sputtered to life. Smoked a good bit out the rear and ran perfect. Only theory I have is the fuel pump is weak. It’s always needed to crank over a bit when starting. And if it sits over a week or so it sometimes sputters upon starting. I shut it off and hit the key and it fired in half a turn. So praying it’s fixed!
