Hello everyone, so last week I went to the beach and was driving around on the beach and in the dunes. As I was leaving the beach I was coasting on the sand and I noticed my truck just shut off while I was in driving, rolling still. Then today I was on the freeway I was coasting exiting and as I was coasting I felt my steering get hard then noticed my engine was off again. Seems it shuts off when it’s a low idle but not every time it’s a low idle. These are the first two instances of it happening.

No it is not on, no pending errors either. I have an ultra gauge in my truck.

I would start with checking your battery connection and all the grounds in the engine bay - battery to fender, back of the engine block to the firewall and I think the other one is attached to the starter?

Sounds like maybe something is loose and while driving it occasionally comes off enough to stall the truck.

    Maybe the throttle position sensor?

Experienced the same exact problem with a Dodge Ram a few months ago.
It would stall when costing. Usually on the interstate exits. Occasionally on the highway, but only went costing.

Thank you! I will check all of those in the morning. Sounds better than what I thought it could be... Just one more question, Howcome it would stall at rpm under 500 vs higher?

Thank you, I’ll look into this too because it did only happen when I am coasting.

To add on, I do recall when it happened after the beach it was a little after my engine revved high around 5k also on the freeway my engine did hit 5k as well. Not sure if it is relevant to my problem

Your tach showed RPM that High or the engine rpm did spike that high .

I have had engines shut off if the system voltage dropped to low what does your ultra gauge show for voltage ??

Like my engine revved high getting on the freeway then 7 minutes later I stall exiting. My ultra gauge is usually ready high 13.7V to 14.1~14.2V. Battery is just 1 year old

So this happened again for the first time since this post. Was driving on the freeway and speed up in a tunnel and my engine hit around 4~4.5k then after that every time I was coasting or a coming to a stop my engine would shut off.

I had a similar issue, but slightly different. The truck would shut off randomly on the highway or driving around town. No discernable pattern. I thought it was a grounding issue, and even replaced a corroded ground wire coming off engine bay fuse box. This did not fix the issue. Eventually, the engine would not start at all. Engine would turn over fine, which lead me to believe it was a fuel issue. Turned out to be a near severed wire going from the main chassis wiring harness to the fuel sending unit on top of the fuel tank. The wires were chewed/frayed somehow and the fuel pump would cut in and out as a result. Repaired the wiring and hasn't been an issue since (5+ years ago).

Just my experience. Could be worth a look.
