I hope not. Time for someone to post up some other manufacturer's sliders and similar 'dents.'

I would love the opportunity to speak to the owner so I can hear the story and see the pictures. I would appreciate it if you could ask the owner to contact me.

    Thanks,

So that's my truck the allpro sliders are on. It was the rubicon trail that did that damage. I am not sure where along the trail it happened. The pic was on big sluice at a pretty common obstacle. The other taco that came with me had another companies sliders, which very little kick out. He took a big door hit because of it. As I said on Facebook, I use a lot of little pedal. My door did not take any damage where the slider was bent so...... That being said I will carefully look at the reinforcing on the next set of sliders I get. My friend has already told me to just cut out that section and weld another piece in. Not sure if I feel safe doing that. Will the section be able to take a hit like that and hold up as well? The rubicon trail is a beast. Nothing aside from the hammers has compared to it. Sure short sections of other trails are as hard. But rubicon is 18 miles of hard. I must say that I was surprised to see my pics here.

Build thread in sig... 4-link long travel

I'm glad you are being realistic about the situation. most people would be freakign out /pissed off, when in reality, a couple feet of tube is a ton cheaper than a new door panel, or the repairing of a bent or punched through frame.

with good welds and materials, you would be fine cutting out the bad section and welding in a new piece. and like i stated earlier in the thread, that is a very inexpensive operation if you have the means to do it yourself.

I would think about adding another leg or two, or even just some 90* gussets at the outer corners of the legs.

I don't have any bends or warps, but my DOM 4x-innovations are full of golf-ball diameter dents on the bottom of the tubing. nothing to compromise the structural integrity to the point of having to replace a section though. sliders, like skid plates, are a wear item. if you wheel long and hard enough, you're "wear" them out. with skids, you may bend it to the point that it is touching a component it shouldn't, or warp them to the point that you can't even get them back on. with sliders you may eventially get a structurally compromising bend or dent. all you have to do is make the decision to either replace or repait, based on the severity and your fabrications skills.

It's a pretty significant dent on that tube...I'm pretty surprised the owner doesn't know where it happened

I dont know of any company that makes a slider that is reinforced well enough to prevent something like this...its tube and you can only have so many legs and gussets...

I would also be interested in knowing if sliders built out of a different tube HREW v DOM wouldve faired differently

You know whats awesome though? The owner has someone from the company requesting his contact...which is top notch

Short of Demello's rock crushers, I'm not sure if another company's sliders would have made it out without taking a little deformation although some other companies do have more legs to reinforce the outter tube.

A great opportunity for both parties - A/P and OP. Now let's see others with similar damage. They must be out there. Where are they? :)

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
That took a hell of a hit to cause that bend and where it was located on the slider that would of happened to just about any slider. That said they did their job protecting the truck so I wouldn't say that's a slider failure as the OP said. Those sliders can be fixed and cheaper then new sliders. For about an hour of shop time and a little tube they can be good as new and ready to wheel.

To do so cut the bad section out & sleeve the tube with a OD tube that fits inside about 6" to 8" long, Grind the sliders cut ends to 45 degrees to get a full pen weld and burn them in. I would add another support in that section where they bent but you could fix those no problem. If you did all the prep work and had them ready to weld I couldn't see this job costing more then $50.00 bucks if you took it to a shop to weld.

I would say the sliders did their job very well. No damage to the cab of the truck means they did awesome. It had to take a VERY big hit to the sliders for that to happen.
