    The amount of concrete though!

Just kidding, I'll try it at Sanctuary.

Agreed. Makes it look like an actual settlement.

I use this method when I can but I really need to return to Starlight to see what can be done differently. I'll report back.

I've walled in all my settlements using the concrete foundation blocks OZ mentions below or a combination of concrete blocks & walls. Never junk fences. Through all the attacks on my settlements, so far I've had to repair one or two crops (wtf).

I think I've mastered the technique of perfectly fitting wooden walls around a perimeter. 10 of my settlements are walled this way, anyways wood shipments are about a pocketful of purified water for me.

I think I'll try this with a small settlement and evaluate from there.

Sanctuary may not lend itself to shack foundations because the crafting area limit is so close to the back of the buildings down one side

The concrete foundations have wood floor bases on top so shacks , walls etc will all snap to them , meaning you can have a wide wall you can walk on , put gaurd posts on , build shacks on etc

Where needed I used the homes themselves as the wall and barricaded any access points.

Using a shack staircase you can align a second level of concrete foundation blocks atop the first.

I've only ever had to repair the odd turret. I usually have insane concentrated defense so things tend to end quickly.

The damage crop surprised me because like you I tend to go overboard on the defenses. Might be why all the settlement defense fights seem to be easy & over in a matter of seconds.

Still, now that I'm thinking about it how the hell did I have a damaged crop?

It's just black and smashed. You'll tend to know before even traveling there if one of your settlements' happiness goes down or their food production.

I wish. Then again if that is what would actually happen I'd have a new pastime destroying/rebuilding my crops.

... Would the corn turn into popcorn??

Depends on how many concrete foundations you're building.
