First time 4WD, question

I put my new truck into 4WD tonight while driving down the road (pavement) which I know now is not a good idea and won't do again. I drove in 4WD for about 1/2 miles and made one left turn on a 2 lane intersection (wide turn, not sharp). Total driving with 4WD on was about 1/2 mile if that.

After I put it back into 2WD it felt fine, just like it did in 4 HI. Does anyone think I did any damage on that short run? I am worried now.

 

How fast were you going when you threw it into 4WD?

 

You probably didn't even feel your tires skipping off the pavement. You probably didn't hurt anything. Unless it's real shitty out, like alot of snow and ice or if you are offroad in some loose shit, I wouldn't use it.

 

I read the manual, so I engaged it at about 40mph and maybe went 50mph....

 

Your fine. Generally you want to be on a loose surface when in 4wd. The main thing to be careful of is tight turns on a traction surface. If you can't avoid that, taking a wide arch turn is the right call. You can engage 4hi up to 60 mph, but once 'in' 4hi, there is no speed limit.
