6 days away from three years of ownership and just crossed 50k miles in my 2022 TRDOR. Runs and looks like the day i bought it. In the 50k miles I've done 12 oil changes 8 tire rotations, the front and rear diff fluids. Other than the warranty front shock replacement, squeaking, that's it. Tires still look great as do the brake pads. My Wrangler in aprx the same miles driven with similar maintenance I needed brakes, front tires, wheel sensors and a new oil cooling assembly. 3rd gen might not be the best gen but its certainly a solid truck to say the least imo.

    Toyota makes a good product.

Back in the day, we would think long and hard at buying a used car with 35,000 miles on it.
Buying one with 45,000 miles was like russian roulette.
Buying at 50,000 - no way.
Seeing a car get 100,000 miles without several major issues was unheard of.

Today, for me anyway, 100,000 miles free of major repair is expected out of any new automobile.
For folks getting in the vicinity of 200,000 miles hats-off.

I sold my 1992 Pickup Truck with 199,999 miles on it. That thing was a beast.
Self Tune Up every year, A set of brakes and a few sets of new tires and regular oil changes was all I did to it.
Damn thing still had original clutch in it.

funny. I’m a few days past my 3 year anniversary (22 sr5 access cab). I’ll have 80k miles by this afternoon or tomorrow. 5 oil changes; almost done with my 2nd set of tires ….one tire rotation on each set; and the truck still runs and feels like new. Paint is a lil banged up and it could use a wash but body still looks totally straight. Hell, I’m still on the original tank of window washer fluid.

What tires came with your truck? My sr5 came with the firestones and I replaced them with factory sized Dunlops.
Now my 22 Pro came with the Goodyear Kevlar's that can be argued for replacement @ just 28k mi., I’m thinking I can get through this summer with them (30k mi. tops).

I did one at 1200mi. The rest every 4k to 5k. I plan on keeping it a long time
Maybe too soon but gives me a little peace of mind.

I agree. The only oil change I’ve ever been concerned with is the 1st one. After that, it’s always been when I get around to it. Now with my pro, I’ll baby it ….shouldnt have bought the panty waist softy. ;-)

I remember a truck that I maintained by the book, might have been the last one I maintained by the book, an 89 sr5 v6, the head gasket blew with 100k mi. on it.

80,000 miles and 5 oil changes? I hope you meant 15 oil changes.

    Might have been 4 times.
Look, I’ve owned or had exclusive use of the following Toy trucks: an 81, 87, 88, 89, 93, 97, 2005, 12, 15, 17, and finally the 22 sr5 and Pro currently in my Driveway. I have somewhere between 1 and 2 million miles in Toyota trucks. They are funking bullet proof. Oh, and that 89 ( previously mentioned in this thread) that blew the head gasket? the truck was at least 15 years old when the gasket blew — Toyota fixed it for free.

65K miles on my bad boy, been an amazing truck. Spent lots of time offroad, absolutely zero issues except for things that i broke. These trucks are built solid.

So far did my diffs, coolant, PCV valve, engine/cabin air filters, and oil changes of course. Soon will be doing my plugs and diffs again.

I personally spoke to a lot of 3G tacoma owners and none of them had any engine or mechanical issues, there are tons of 3rd Gens where I live. This website will make people believe that these trucks are ticking time bombs but all these "TW issues" are definitely blown out or proportion. No vehicle is perfect and some will have issues, just how it is.

I have been using my truck for my home maintenance business for last 1.5 years and it tows my 6x12 enclosed trailer without any issues. This truck is really jack of all trades, Im hoping to keep it for at least another 20 years.

I love this thread because it’s all about people who actually use and love their trucks!
