Folding Tonneau Cover

I have the Undercover Flex and no regrets.

 

i have the Fold-a-cover G4 elite and couldn't be happier. I open mine 10+ times a day and wanted a mechanism that had easy yet secure operation. looks like some of the others require you to open the tailgate to fold the cover. Also have a dynalock tailgate lock so everything can open with the key fob. installation took 2 but the instructions were good and i haven't had to do any adjustments 2 years later. Customer support was excellent.

 

Mine had been on the Truck for roughly one year. The finish has held up OK. I have noticed a few bare spots on the top of the texture of the panels. Nothing too terrible. I figure I can always pull it off the truck, hit it with a scotchbrite pad and rattle can it with some rustoleum if it gets too bad.

 

Had the Bakflip G2 on my 09 Canyon V8 OffRoad. I loved it, but it was NOT completely waterproof. Minor leaks at the joint where the side of the bed and hinges all came together. Kept my gear dry... But I never had to haul a truck full of Gremlins in a rain storm so...

 

I'm very happy w/the G4 Elite. I also open and close it quite a bit, on weekends in particular. I like that it opens/locks at both ends. Very convenient. Heavy rain last night and today and some water gets in but not a lot. Going on a trip in a few weeks, I'll bag anything I don't want even a little wet (suitcases) just to make sure. Most things won't be bagged though. But I'd do that with any cover probably.

 

I have the TonnoPro Hard Fold Tonneau Cover. Very satisfied...you can use the rails and one of the easiest installations I know. Now, I can put it on and take it off within 2 minutes. I also purchased the Pop & Lock to secure my tailgate...good investment.

 

Yes these same requirements have my choices narrowed down to Extang Solid Fold or Tonno Pro Hard. I am leaning towards the Tonno Pro Hard; its quite a bit less expensive, has no exposed fold joints to start leaking, and its lighter (easier to move around for installation etc).

 

I would tell you go for BAK, but mine after 5 years is falling apart. I have the G2 and the polymer shell is cracked. I contacted Julian at Bak and the best he would do is offer me 20% off of their retail price for a replacement, which is still more expensive than buying from Scott at Truckaddons.com Love the design, but the materials don't hold up to the elements. For a cover that Bak claims will withstand the elements, it obviously didn't.

 

For those who voted other, which one did you prefer?

Bakflip Fibermax. Only had it a month but love it. Only negative is the loss of the rail system.

 

I bought the TonnoPro Hard Fold and would say its just ok. Better price, yes but quality seems lacking especially with the hinges and clamping hardware. It doesn't look as clean as the others mentioned for just a couple hundred $ more. All in all I would not recommend it and just spend a little more.

 

Has anyone tried the BAK Roll-x hard tonneau cover? I just saw it today, looks pretty good.

I’m also leaning towards the Extang solid fold with a tailgate lock.

Are there any other brands of locks other than pop-and-lock? My buddy has had one for less than a year and the finish looks terrible. It would also be nice to have a Bolt Lock rather than having to use a separate key. I already have a Bolt Lock for my receiver, and two pad locks for securing stuff in the bed with cables. They work well.
