I bought a 2010 4WD Tacoma after my Ford Ranger was confiscated by the Ford dealer for being "too unsafe to drive" due to the front end frame being rusted out and about to fail. Since I purchased the TACO in August, 2014, I've read about frame issues on Toyota pick-up trucks, specifically frames rusting out, recalls by Toyota, Toyota owners being unhappy with the way Toyota has been handling frame issues, and so forth. My question: Do I need to be worrying about my Tacoma falling victim to frame rot the way my Ford did? Are their defensive measures I can take? Does frame anti-rust coating work? Many thanks for your time and response. Note: Right now there is an open service bulletin (no resolution) on rear leaf spring corrosion.

My 98 Tacoma became unsafe to drive thanks to frame rot (prior to Toyota recall - lost $14000) and my 07 was rusting heavily (just sold it as got tired of the issue and didn't trust their CRC treatment - coating was coming off and exposing big flakes of rust after 3 months!). I don't think the problem is yet solved and most likely you'll need to keep an eye on your 10, especially if you're up in MN (my trucks were in OH/MI). Good luck!
