Hey i am new to this site and seeking any information that may solve a problem. i recently had Toyota replace the frame on my 2005 tacoma 4X4 trd. The truck drives straight on a level road but after approx. 20 mins. of parkway driving the steering becomes stiff when in banked turns like the off ramp of the parkway. The dealer tells me that the alignment is right-on the money and they cannot simulate a problem.
    Any ideas?

Yes I have an idea bud. Did the dealer replace any parts for you?

My frame on my 2005 4x4 was also just replaced.

The dealer replaced my calipers since one was seized, rotors and pads.

Before going in, my truck had a similar problem to yours, being that the steering was stiff.

It turned out that the "intermediate shaft" that connects the steering column from the steering wheel to the steering rack was old/worn/seized. On this "intermediate shaft" is a mini u joint, just like the ones on the rear driveshaft, just smaller. That's the part that was worn/seized.

Changing this part with the trucks body on the frame is still doable, but relatively difficult. What you cab do right now is get some pb blaster or lunricating/rust breaker penetrant and soak that u joint for a couple days while driving it and steering to work it in.

Mine was really stiff when they took it off, but they oiled it abd it was better, but still had too much play for my liking, being worn.

Hi Matt yes they did replace Frame, lower ball joints, and the hydraulic brake tubing that attaches to the frame.

yes i was suspecting the u-joint at the intermediate shaft. but never had a problem with it being loose ir stiff prior to the frame replacement.

Ah I see you know what you're talking about here, good, not always the case. I'd try that then see if it helps. Unfortunately things like this happen alot when they do the frame replacement

Otherwise, did they give you an alignment spec sheet?
