As far as cosmoline i've spoke with a friend that was a bmw/mercedes tech before opening his own shop. Said everyone of their cars come coated with cosmoline before leaving their plants. When he worked on them...you'd rarely find a rusty chassis, only on the oldest of old ones. Claims the military uses that stuff on all their vehicles to.

    couple things about that test:
    • Those are raw metal. If they were painted with the same black coating that car manufacturers use under their vehicles AND that was the result after using Krown, I’d change my mind.
•Even with raw steel, the back didn’t look bad at all. It’s surface rust too. That would take years to perforate holes into the metal, and by then you’d notice and clean it up.
    • that was Krown from a can. I’m actually going to a Krown shop where they pressure spray the stuff on thick. Inside the doors. Inside the bed sides. In the frame cavities. Inside the engine compartment. Etc. it’s A LOT of product.
    • I have first-hand testimony that Krown works great from my FIL, who’s been getting it sprayed annually for 5 or 6 years and no rust anywhere. The stuff penetrates into small spaces.
    • It’ll probably come off of the rear diff and axle, and front control arms due to lots of road spray, so I’ll hit those areas with some Fluid Film too, prior to winter starting. I’m mostly concerned with the frame and the brake lines honestly.
    • I’ll try to remember to report back this spring, but I’m pretty confident it’ll keep major corrosion away. If there’s some surface rust here and there, I don’t mind hitting it with a wire wheel and some spray paint. Now rust perforation, that’s what I’m trying to avoid.
