I took my truck in, they applied the black anti corrosion stuff....

When i got my truck back, it was night time and didn't really have time to take al look at what they did.

Does this stuff get sprayed on ? My Coil overs are have allot of black stuff on it, as well as my rear shocks. Are they not supposed to cover these items to not coat them as well ?

a lot of people have posted on tacomaworld complaining about the substance they spray and the coverage. they seem to overspray a lot onto suspension parts and sometime even the bottoms of body panels. stuff looks nasty to me

I have had frame rust so bad on mine (1995 tacoma) that i had to cut/weld new metal in there.
It may look like shit-but i bet it probably helps!

Need advice - Had an apt. to have my frame inspected tomorrow, but dropped the truck off today. Asked if they would call after they inspected the frame, and the lady said they usually call after the spray is applied. Told them how the local repair shop said my frame is weak and he could put a hammer through it. Got a call at 445 today saying that my truck is all set! I assume they just sprayed the frame and ignored my comments!

What would you do in this situation?

    Stock for now...
Take your favorite hammer to the dealership with you - I prefer my old-iron 38oz ball-pien . One of two things - use the hammer to show the weak spots/holes or knock some sense into a few people . Maybe they will start paying attention .
Wonder how many people they will treat like this and cause accidents ? How many deaths will be associated with frame breakage before they are held accountable ?
Owners need to band together , sooner or later they have to pay attention and do the right thing ....

None currently, but I would like a better sounding exhaust and perhaps a cold air pack and some color coded step bars

In Oct , I got the recall and my local Toyota dealer(Framingham, MA.) asked what year it was, its a 06, he said he will get me a loaner truck from Enterprise, as every 06 he has inspected had big issues with rust thru on the frame.
I got a 2014 F150 4door...big truck..If they find the frame is rusted thru you don't get it back due to safety issues.
In Dec, I emailed them to see how things were going, the frame was still being made in Mexico, according to them. Early Jan I got another call saying they were working on my truck and it would be ready in a week or so.
I went to pick it up and it was -8deg...I sat with the service tech guy and went over what was done to the truck. New frame, of course, new brake lines, fuel lines, new control arms, new coolant, brake fluid and PS fluid, rear spring assemblys. Many other things from what I can see. Will have to look them up on a parts list.

They did a good job it appears, everything works, no sqeaks or rattles. Truck had been cleaned.
They also updated all of the recall notices and replaced the "spiral clock spring " a second time.

I hope this will help others who are going to take there trucks in for warranty work. Toyota paid for the rental and all the costs. MJEFF

BTW, I forgot to add that I had tried to contact Toyota to see if they had some sort of buy back plan available , as I would like to get a four door truck, with the same drive train as I currently have.
They told me they were not doing that any longer... MJEFF

I just took my 07 in on 1/19/15 for the frame rust recall, unfortunately they said that I did have a hole in the frame and just like that they kept my truck. They did not let me take the truck and make an appointment another day, so I ended up getting all my stuff out of the truck and I got a 4 door F150 also. Hope everything goes ok!! They told me 3-5 months.

Brought mine in to get inspected on the 19th as well. Called and told me that they found two holes and have submitted the packet to toyota for frame replacement. Waiting to hear back on if its been approved. Gave me a Nissan Rogue as a loaner, but am going to tell them I need a truck as replacement, unless they want me doing dump runs in the Rogue lol.

On mine they sprayed it all over the place. They told me the recall was only related to the frame at the rear of the truck, but they spray the whole frame as a courtesy.

I brought mine back in to have them clean that stuff off my CV boots. Don't think that sticky stuff would make them last any longer.

They said they couldn't do anything about the stink though. They got some on my exhaust and it still smells when it heats up. Apparently they cant clean it off of metal as it "sticks well to metal".

m_taker 1. felbell85, the process is when you bring it in, they pretty much know whether its going to have problems, from previous inspections.
If it does have holes in it, its a safety hazard and Toyota cannot let it back on the road. Some trucks had serious issues with the rear springs failing and going up thru the gas tank.
I told my dealer I wanted a fair trade swap for my truck when it came to rentals and he said they(Enterprise Rental) could and would get me a truck. The F150 with only 3k on it. So I am sure your rental company can find you a decent vehicle.

According to the service manager, they have to take pictures of the frame and fax them to Toyota central, where ever the hell that is. They then approve it, order the frame, so they must be keeping track of whats coming and going.
I only know of one person that has had the spray job, as his had no holes in it but he did not care for it, said it was sloppy and all over the place.
I don't think you should worry about getting the truck back correctly, as after the mechanics had done a few they know exactly what tools they need and where the problems are and how to fix it.
m_taker1, I know the service guy told me that they were out of frames and naturally they have a waiting list. I think 5 months is a stretch but as long as you have a vehicle to replace your truck, you are doing OK....I never did call and badger the service dept , just kept in touch.
The Ford F150 was a gas hog, V6 turbo, just a big truck...not a bad truck, mind you, you just had to watch the corners when parking and backing up.
By the way, they service guy told me my frame was like swiss cheese.
I also made sure my service guy knew that I would be back if I had any problems, after all they are on the hook for the repair...Be sure to ask for the repair sheet when you do get it back. Good Luck, MJEFF

When they did mine they got it on the exhaust and on a couple of the wheels. I waited to install my new shocks until after they were done. It smoked pretty bad as the stuff burned off the exhaust on the way home. I parked it outside for 2 weeks and drove my car until the stuff dried. They gave me a prius as a loaner, which totally sucked. Lamest thing I've ever driven.

I hear ya on the Prius, hard to be a car/truck person, when driving one of those. They may be good for someone but not us!
My neighbor had his Sequoia frame changed and they spilled something all over his wheels and brakes and he made them replace them.
My other neighbor who had his Tacoma's frame sprayed, likes to work on his own vehicle and he really hated it. MJEFF

Well the biggest grip about all this is, my truck parked and taken off the road for winter per say. I was going to toss it on blocks and sell my lift components. Well they are covered and even if the dealer did " clean " them, they are a good 40min drive one way from my house.

I feel like i should talk to the service manager and figure out what to do about my whole truck as there is allot more " black" Stuff on Parts that shouldn't have it on.

First post on this forum. Hello all!
    Have an 05 Taco.
Just took it to dealer tonight for frame inspection. Was in process of getting a rental car when the service guy came back and said he was letting me take the truck and that he would call me in 5 months.

My frame has a hole in it and it would take that long to get a new one.
I asked if it was safe to drive and he replied that it was.

I'm been scouring the Internet trying to find if this is proper protocol from the dealership...
    What say everyone else??

Yes it's fine as long as the hole isn't near a suspension component. I picked mine up today and that's exactly what they told me.

I really don't think that anything is fine if you have a hole in your frame from rust.
I do understand their thinking on your truck but to me it doesn't make sense. Keep us informed and thanks. MJEFF
