Frame rust recall

Hey folks,

It's been a year since I first walked into the Dealer and they advised that my truck could qualify for a frame recall. Since then, they've inspected it, and put me on the list, but I'm still waiting, after calling several times over many months.

I'm a Maple Syrup eater (aka Canadian), but has anyone else had issues waiting this long for the job to get done? Heck, I even didn't even do my rust prevention treatment this fall, because they told me not to bother.

I'm just tired of getting the runaround...

 

Took mine in today and the inspection didn't even warrant the CRC. I shouldn't be surprised. This is an AZ truck and Flagstaff doesn't use salt in town. The state uses salt on the interstate, but I keep the under carriage pretty clean during the winter. Oh well, no new frame for me.

 

Leek. They showed me the hole in mine. I opted to take it home instead of a rental. It's been over five months and still waiting on new frame to come in. I don't worry about driving it although it is not a daily driver. The hole did not seem to grow much but we had a very mild winter here.

 

Wow. A year seems excessive. I'm at 5 months plus though.

 

yeah... that's what I told the lady over the phone today. I mentioned liability issues should the frame fail while I'm driving it down the highway.... she hung up on me! I tried to call back... no answer?? I want to call Corporate to file a complaint... but don't know where to start...

 

Call Toyota Canada ASAP tell them the problems your having.where are u in Ontario because it sound like your dealer isn't helping.

 

I'm dealing with a dealer that is 3hours away from me, as it's the closest one to my location. It's located in Timmins... North Eastern Ontario.

 

Call Toyota canada Tomm complain to them about your dealer as well

 

has anyone of you in Washington state had your frame replaced?
I'd like to know of a dealer that has some experience with them.
Might as well take the truck to an experienced dealer.

 

I called toyota.ca which said take to the dealer for inspection......
Squamish dealer said they've done a few frames.

 

I'd feel safer driving a Tacoma with a hole in the frame than most other cars "brand new"!

 

I wouldn't agree with your statement, trucks are made to haul/pull heavy loads, that most cars will never experience. Toyota's history of Tacoma frames rotting from the inside out, seeing a hole doesn't mean the frame isn't weak or compromised in other important areas. As much as I would prefer a truck to most cars, a new frame compared to a questionable frame would be an easy call for me.

 

Well that was met as more of a joke.
Kidding aside I would not tow or haul with a compromised frame! Regular d/d while waiting a few months for a new frame vs. my truck sitting on their lot collecting dust (and possible damage) I wouldn't have a problem driving it.

 

Thanks for the replies guys. 3 month wait means June and I need my truck for a camping trip we've planned for a year now. I will never go in the wife's GMC Terrain ever again.

 

Got the call Wednesday morning that my frame and all parts were in and ready when I was. I said I'll be right there! I dropped off my 2007 for the frame rust recall swap. Molle Toyota in MO. Service advisor is pretty nice guy and also has/had a Tacoma, so he seemed to be enthused about dealing with me. He laughed that I washed my truck before I came in. I told him I wanted to give them a clean platform to work on. LOL. I've been there previously and the last service advisor didn't much care that I love Tacomas or Toyotas. He was just there to work and probably drove a Ford. ANYWHO, Zack is supposed to send me pictures today and keep me updated on the progress. He says his tech has done several now and has a rhythm down and should "have it back on the road by Friday." Zack showed me my new frame, "that one on the right is yours!" Pretty sweet to see a new shiny black frame ready to go under my old faithful taco. I handed over my box of new toys, Bilstein 6112 up front and 5160 dual reservoirs in the rear, which i purchased from HeadStrong Off-Road as soon as I knew I was getting a new frame. Been sitting patiently in my garage in the box for a few months. No labor to costs to install, although they did say they'd charge me small fee to put the coils on. Zack told me $200, I said well HeadStrong offered to do it for $110, so he agreed to match that price. Said my goodbyes and went with the rental dept guy. Rental guy plops the key box on the counter and says "what kind of car do you want?" I said "New 2016 Tacoma." "I don't have one or I would", he says. So there was about 12 Camry keys, a Sienna, and a scion Xb. I took a 2016 Camry in my choice of blue. Let me tell you, people do not respect you in a Camry, I want my Taco back already. Whatever it's only a few days. I'll live. Super excited and will update with pictures!

 

I'd be over there putting an extra coat of paint on the frame before the install is done, Toyota is a little stingy with there frame paint!

 

How many months did you wait? I'm only at a little over 2 now. Dying missing my truck.

 

I got my inspection done December 9th, they ordered the frame that day. 3 months to the day.

 

I am at 3 months now. Called the service department today: "yeah, we've got the frame in, just waiting on the parts"...."wait, I've got that switched around, the parts are in, just waiting for the frame"..."call me back in a month if you don't hear from me first"

 

I was caught off guard yesterday, had pushed it out of my mind and just told myself it will be summer before he calls. Hang in there!
