Print out three copies - frame one and place on Mechanic's toolbox, give one to the service manager and send the third to Corporate.

Hey monk08 I'm curious what dealer did you take your truck to . I'm in northeast phillyand took mine to Faulkner on route 1. Brought in sept. and told probably February. How bad was your frame because I wasn't offered a rental not that I need one its just a small 4 inch hole by converter the rest of the frame was pretty good. Tia

Hey Beerline, Just got mine back from Faulkner. They ordered the frame in August and got the call a week and a week and a half ago. Dropped it off on Monday morning and picked it up Thursday morning. 2 days driving and so far no problems. They gave me a piece of shit Corolla to drive so I was glad it only took 3 days. I need to crawl around under the taco to check out the new frame. Weather hasn't been the driest to do that. Everything feels tighter and fortunately there were no additional parts needed other than the recall parts. The service writer told me Toyota paid them $12,200 to do the recall. Good luck when you get the call.

I'm going to try and stay positive and pretend I have the most thorough mechanics in this thread.

Oh and he stripped the center bolt putting on my AAL yesterday.

Maybe a.s. is someone from Toyota Corporate making the rest of us feel better about what was done to our trucks. I'm sure most of us saw this and said, "What the F..."

I had a new clutch, pressure plate, flywheel and throwout brg. installed and they gave me a slight break in the labor. Faulkner does a pretty good job and like to make the customer happy. When I get a chance, I want to crawl under and look around. They warranty parts and labor for 1 year. I'll keep the thread posted if I have any problems.

Really? Was I supposed to vet all the techs and Toyota dealerships in NY State before I took it in? At what point was I negligent? Maybe I should just pick up all the pieces, throw them in the back seat of my Corolla rental and drive them over to another Toyota? You're an idiot. Go troll another thread.

At least speak up for yourself, "can you put the valve covers back on please?"

Don't act helpless. Why'd you even stop by?

I mean no insult by this to him, but I don't think it clicked what he was seeing while he was there. When you see your truck in a bunch of pieces I could see it not clicking instantly that this certain piece shouldn't be taken apart. Valve covers off the engine is a pretty odd thing but still.

Exactly. Don't confuse me making light of the situation for being a pushover. The truck will be back in my driveway with all new shit and running better than I brought it in. That's it. I don't need to rant and rave on the internet and wave my dick around. When the time comes to pick it up I expect no bullshit. It will be dealt with accordingly. Thanks for your concern.

a.s., can you please tell us what they said when you asked why they removed the valve covers? Good thing you stopped in and took pics. I'm sure the mechanics were thinking, "oh sh.t" when they saw the owner in the garage. My Corolla rental is currently stuck in snow in my driveway, 3 weeks after they promised me a Rav4. After seeing this, I will definitely stop in when they are doing my swap.

If that was my truck, my foot would have been up someone's ass in a heartbeat, if there was not a logical explanation why my motor was opened up like that.

    THIS.

I would really probe the dealer why in the hell they had your motor opened up like that. There really is no reason for it on a frame swap. At least they could have covered it up with something while in the shop. Shit could have gotten in there, and could affect your motor. If it was me, I would want to know exactly why, and would at the bare minimum make them extend the powertrain coverage for putting your truck in an unnecessary situation. I hope everything works out for you.

More like all the techs at the dealers have no experience doing what Toyota needs done.

The good news is that you have evidence that they took your valve covers off. If you didn't have that picture and you had engine problems I guarantee their answer would be "It was like that when you brought it in."

My timing cover is leaking so I'm having that fixed along with a new water pump. I was told they needed to remove the valve covers to do the job correctly. I'm no mechanic so who am I to argue. I simply said don't let anything get into the engine and make sure the truck is running good as new when you finish.

Everyone is ranting and raving with opinions on what they would do if they were me. I appreciate the insight and information. It gives me ammo for post-work conversation. The reality is that I'm not going to start telling the tech guy what he should or shouldn't be doing. I'm good around tools and can repair a lot of shit but I am no auto mechanic. So when the job is done and I get my truck back, I expect it to be running great, as I was told it would. If it is not then I will raise hell and it may or may not get ugly. I will certainly entertain all of you with the updates.
