Frame rust recall

My dealership service manager told me flat out they prefer to change the frames. It pays more hours and is more money for the dealership. I had two 'unofficial' inspections before mine finally failed.

 

I visited my truck Monday. I miss the old girl and it's only been a week. Was told it would likely be done mid April.

 

Service manager at Scott Clark Toyota in Charlotte told me parts should be here by the end of the week. We shall see I guess.

 

What's the deal if you have weld on sliders? Will they still replace or is that a nono?

Dropped mine off last week and they said minimum 4 months. Up in VA btw.

 

thanks, all I can do is sit and wait...its been a decent deployment though. it'll be nice to come back and be able to take a hot shower without wearing sandels lol

in Hawaii, all of the Toyota dealerships are under the same umbrella company Servco, and they are not part of Toyota USA...so my gf called the dealership closer to her house and talked to the scheduler that schedules for all the locations.

my job is metal fabrication...welding, machining, anything and everything metal...and I can bet my paycheck that if I were given the inspection criteria, it would fail.

a Lawyer is definitely an option...hopefully I hear back later this week.

 

They will, they can cut them off or you can. I opted to cut mine off so i can have enough material to weld back on with. Worried they would fuck it up.

Dropped it off on Monday. I feel like I might be waiting longer than two weeks.

 

Really nothing to look for, a few $'s each I wish I would have thought to have them changed. When they did my frame the steering knuckles/spindles had to come off, they were right there. It would have just taken a few minutes to change each one.

 

That's a really good idea. If the seal is new the bearings look to be a pretty easy job. Now I need to add seals to the parts list but I can wait on the bearing assemblies. Went to the dealer to get something different to drive. Just didn't like the Highlander and I needed a hitch. Really lucked out . They put me in a 4runner limited. Now I want heated leather seats and a sunroof for my truck.

 

Yep, then if you have a wheel bearing go bad a few months later the inner seal shouldn't need to be changed. Just change out the hub assembly and roll.

 

I'm a little skeptical though. Seems like the bad bearing might allow enough play to eat the seal. May do it anyway because the seals are pretty cheap. Thanks for the idea either way.

 

Just thought I'd share my expirience with the frame swap. I just recently bought a 06 4x4 DCSB. I test drove it and thought it drove great, minus the wheel bearing they had to replace. I was then informed they've had the truck since June 2015 and the dealer's son has been driving it while waiting for the new frame. Well a week later, the frame arrived, they started the swap on Monday 2/8 and I picked it up 2/10. I can't believe how many parts were new when I crawled underneath!

New frame, new brake lines, new TSB rear leaf springs, and new wheel bearing was what I was told would be installed.

I found that I had what looked like new rear shocks, new LCA's, new front sway bar, and more.

Pardon the white salt in the pics, that's after 2 days of driving here in PA.

 

Am I the only one who is frustrated that the dealer looked under my truck and says it passed the inspection and does not need a new frame, or to even be sprayed...?

I was kinda hoping for all the new parts on my old 2005 crew cab PreRunner with 178k miles.

Especially was hoping to get the TSB springs seeing as mine are bout bent flat, nearly looking like they are upside down.
I honestly can't remember where my truck originally hailed from, as I am the 3rd owner, but it is now a FL truck and sees plenty of sea salt... just apparently not enough for them to do anything for me.

 

I hope you didn't sign off on anything per the paperwork I got they are either doing a frame swap or coating them. Where abouts are you from??

You're facing a real uphill battle if your truck is registered in Florida. Not saying you don't have a rusty frame but I don't think Florida is one of the states included in the LSC. You may be able to join a class action lawsuit. Did you get the safety recall letter for the leaf springs?

 

Dropped my 05 DCLB off yesterday for the recall. Got a call 2 hours later saying I could pick the truck up, the frame failed and they need to order a new one. ETA is 1-4 months. They said they will replace the leaf springs when they transfer the frame.

From the sides, it didn't look bad to me. But in December when I was installing a backup camera, I reached underneath to pull myself under the truck and a chunk came off. Figured I'd be getting a new frame.

 

So I was reading a different thread about the leaf spring recall and the part numbers for the replacement spring kits were posted in it. They do not match the part numbers for the new springs being installed with the frame replacement that are posted in this thread. Does anyone know if the springs included in the frame replacement are the same as the recall springs?
