Check the filler neck to the gas tank, could have been nicked or drilled into when cover was installed.

Tank shows full. My guess is at some point you over filled your tank and got fuel in your carbon canister. Do you full past the first click filling up? This thought is supported by it doing when it sits our in the morning. This is the expansion cycle of the diurnal cycle the carbon canister was designed to stop.

Fellow Tacoma newbie, I've noticed an occasional smell after fill up. It seems to go away in my case after the first run. I have crawled around to see if I can find the source and come up empty. There are some threads on here about pinched lines from the factory, but there's no smell under the truck or in engine compartment. I've come to think the smell might be on me. I went from a 2005 F150 to a '17 Tacoma and I think I was so used to smelling the road with the ford, that in the tightly sealed, cabin filtered Tacoma I am just noticing the bit of smell I take with me. It also seemed to go away for the most part after I installed Weathertech floor mats, which kinda supports my theory that I was dragging the smell in with me.
I tried to find the thread I saw for you and failed...I am still new, however if no-one has told you wording your search "tacoma world..." and using the google search option is much more effective than the internal search option of your trying to avoid making a duplicate thread. If you find anything out keep us in the loop!

I should have asked if it was actively engaged at that moment.
