I had my cluster LED's replaced with white LED's a few years back. Today the whole MPH center gauge started to flicker. It would light up then turn off, then turn back on again. Tapping on the cluster didn't seem to have any effect. I know the "MPH" section is 3 LED's. Anyone have any ideas why just this section would be having an issue? Its worked fine for years. I could understand if one LED in this area were to go out but what would cause all 3 to be intermittent at the same time?

    Spec: 2010 Tacoma, Automatic

** and for anyone who says use the search button to look this up, I did and frankly I'm to impatient. :)

    replied to your pm

and for future searches (i know it will happen)

these leds are in series with eachother by section...
    - tach 2 leds background, 2 needle
    - Speedo 3 background 3 needle
    - Engine Temp 1 background 1 needle
    - Fuel 1 background 1 needle
now the engine temp background is also in series with the fuel and in the auto the spare led that lights up behind the shifter portion...

ex: his speedo is flickering, one led is going out will cause the other 2 to do the same.
i suggest replacing all 3 leds with new ones to be on the safe side

while i can't tell you exactly how to fix it.. because i have not done one personally and do not know the wiring design. im sure one of the folks that replace them as a service can chime in on my assumption.

to me it sounds like those leds are wired in series and one of them has either started to fail internally or the solder joint has finally cracked from all the hot and cold cycles they go through. with them wired in series, one bad one would effect the others.

this could be a simple resolder or replacement of the led(s).
