So far so good. I've got 5 letters so far at 10 words per minute.

@medic2230 also look into the TM-V71A if you're looking to APRS with a real map. Because neither of those do really without extras.

The yaesu gives you extra digital modes, but you'll have to see if anyone uses it in your area. Nobody does in mine. DMR is become the clear winner every day. With the Kenwood you can get stuff like a general heading and type messages, although it takes awhile to scroll through all the letters.

After looking at those I'm happy I went with what I did. Saved money and it's only $70 to get all the aprs and messaging features on an easier to handle tablet or phone.

The one thing I liked about the yaesu was how other yaesu mobiles would pop up for a direct contact. That was neat.

You can do it whenever you want. I believe there's a slot in the top right of the form where you can do it there if you want just have to check online to see if it's taken before you put one in.
