    Hi Melissa.

Your tax dollars at work again. Federal Holiday (Columbus Day Monday) lined up with my 3 day break again. It's been a good year for that this year, I think every holiday Monday has synched with my 3 day break this year.

Poor kid ... but I do know where you're coming from. In my 26 yrs active duty (Command Post/24 hr op centers), I'm certain I worked more holidays than I had off. I lost count of the number of Thanksgivings and Christmases I spent working ... Airfield Base Ops, Tower, Fire Dept, Security Forces (cops) and us.

As a civilian now, we're paid hourly ... costs them too much to have us work the holidays, so the active duty guys get stuck with it. I think I've worked 3 holidays in the 5 years I've been civil service.

I guess I shouldn't complain, I knew when I signed up per say for my career choice what it would entail, guess I am kind of lucky I work third and not first shift at least I get to be home for most of the holiday:)

My SIL and her husband, BIL and his wife, are all nurses...I know what you're talking about there too. Third shift does have that holiday advantage, but I always hated eating all that good food, then having to get ready and go to work versus slipping into the food induced coma.
