Hi Rob, all is well here how are you doing?

 

I'm good. Hoping to tire enough to get another nap in before morning. My hunting partner got called for a hwy corridor nuisance moose hunt permit. Tomorrow is day one for the permit. We need to fill the tag by next Sunday. To put the crunch on, they fly out to PA for Christmas on Monday the 22nd. So we're hoping to fill the tag by Wednesday, so we'll have time to process before they leave.

Not sure. I don't use it except when I plan on being out there for extended times. I'm a terrable chicken shit when it comes to untended fires, so I only burn when I'm within sight of it. It will warm the place up warmer than I normally keep the heat set at.

The main heat is supplied by a natural gas hot water boiler. Plastic tubes in the concrete floor (pex tube) circulate hot water to heat the entire concrete floor. I keep the heat set at 50*F. Plenty warm for me. I'm a skilled, amature fabricator/welder, so I'm always wearing extra clothing.

The odd thing about this type of heat is the colder it is outside, the better it works. The floor only gets warmer as the outside temp drops. Its awsome!

The only drawback is you are all in, or nothing. You can't turn the heat off if you plan on being gone for a week. It will take 2 days to bring the temp back up to where you like it. The wood stove is a kind of a compremise. It allows me to keep the temp low all the time, but allows me to heat up the place in a hurry if I want.

Here is a pic of the tubes radiating heat. I had my fire department buddies come with the infrared camera to map the location of the tubes. I had a bunch of pics saved before the concrete was poured, but I jsut could not get myself to trust my pics and measurements before I drilled holes for the lift posts. It would have been devistating to drill into a tube.

 

Northwest part of state ... For the life of me I can't remember the exact name of the town. Where is the GE plant there? Randy's son in law works for them and Randy's daughter is attending Penn State IIRC.
