they stopped a kid who would’ve had like over a grand in fines and let him off with a $74 “educational” ticket. The trails up there are much more friendly to snow mobiles than quads/dirt bikes/sxs.

I just opened my gram for the first time in like 2 years today. It was to check out a drummer. She is VERY good. Like just nailing Danny Carey and Neil Peart parts. And also not very hard on the eyes ;)

6 pack of blaze like fiddy bucks. Might be worth the experiment. Nothing like making your vehicle an absolute stand out and easy to remember

See..... here's the problem I have. Maybe you guys are older and have more life experience/advice.

I'm single, no kids, and dirt cheap rent at the hospital. I'm putting 10% of my check into a 401k. I've got my 6 month emergency fund.

I'm finding it hard to be "responsible" with the rest of what I bring home. Especially since right now the CARES act is pausing loan my student loan payments.

Like is it worth it for me being a single mid 20's dude to invest even more? Or just enjoy the relatively high amount of disposable income I have right now on stuff I want like motorcycles, traveling, etc? I see something I want, and I save enough to just buy it, or just buy it if I already have it saved. I feel like I have more than enough disposable income, and don't really wish I was using more of my money to make money right now.

I understand saving for the future (which I am doing) but I also find value in living life. There's no guarantee I won't get a terminal illness tomorrow. And it also doesn't help in the couple months I've opened this 401k it's dropped 5%. Obviously with my employer matching 100% of me up to 4% I'm way ahead.. but negative percentage makes it easier to justify not putting more in since I'm already over double what they match.

The only other thing I think I should start doing is open a Roth IRA and try to max that each year... That way I can get the money (at least what I contributed) out before retirement if I need it. Not sure maxing a 401k makes as much sense right now since there are big penalties for early withdraw. Once loan payments kick back in and I contribute the 500/mo to a roth my disposable will drop quite a bit... but I'll still have more than enough. Just dunno what to do with the rest.

I guess I should talk to a financial guy.

As long as your bills are paid and you don't have people knocking down your door to collect money, I say take 50% of your disposable income and enjoy it. I'm of the thought you must enjoy today b/c tomorrow isn't promised.

I can’t really give sound advice as I am slightly older and have 13 years in on a State Pension that automatically takes 10% of my pay. Wife contributes the max matching contribution to 401k and we sock away $300/mo for the boys college. We’re in our forever home with only $230k left on a $650k property. We live frugally but also have a good amount of “expendable” income especially now since Covid happened.

that being said, I still feel unfulfilled and empty automotively... but also understand that sacrifices must be made for the greater good.

If your retirement fund(s) are fully funded for the year, do what you want.

I get everything I want after I've maxed out my 401 contributions for the year.

Remember, there will be a point when your "stuff" will own you, not the other way around.

I absolutely do not judge the people that have no savings, but have done some wonderful things. That was a choice and the best for them.
My fear of the future made me become a super saver. The best choice for me.

Well I COULD max the 401k but the way the market is going.... Might hold off a few months before upping the contributions. Roth I really should do because there's no reason not to. The money is liquid if I end up needing it.
