im a little bit younger but even when you make a lot more, having no kids and any tax exemptions, it takes so so much out of your gross pay. A huge chunk was taken out of from my gross pay last year but when I filed taxes, i still had to pay about $1000 more even if i claimed 0 on everything.. they say it only gets better if i buy a property, do ROTH IRA or go back to school. or the usual, get married!..

I've always had mine set up to take $10 extra out of my checks. I already put my last check ytd in on the IRS website and it looks like i should be getting back 1,400 federal. Which is normal for me. I should up it next year since the 20% raise our department got.

Once I get this truck paid off I'll be looking for small fixer uppers. probably $50k max. But marriage is nowhere in the near future since I'm single forever, haha.

Thanks! I was running around our city like a madwoman trying to get photos. I had to drive an hour out of the way to get to my home town and was almost land locked heading back up north in the city to my hotel. I had to be at work since the other people were flooded in. I was lucky enough to have a dad that wanted me safe and put me up with marriot points in a hotel.
I helped clean up in my home town for 2 days until i came down with a terribly nasty cold that knocked me on my ass for nearly 2 weeks. probably came from all the nasty stuff we cleaned up.

I may do the IRA soon. I'm not paying into a retirement fund yet. The last two years I had been paying off high interest debts and I wanted that little bit of extra cash. Though I did buy a truck, so it doesn't help. I need to pay into the retirement fund at this job, they match up to 9%! friggin' ridiculous. but you're not vested until 3 years. I only plan to stay here for 2 total.

Luckily I made so little before that I'm still in the same bracket. Though I'm contemplating picking up a side job out of boredom and wanting some more mod money for the truck. It seems that by doing so I will be right at the border of the second tier tax bracket. Although it'd be like 1k over if anything. So my uneducated in the tax world self is hoping that won't really matter.

I don't want to be single forever, but it seems it will stay that way. lol. And as far as marriage goes if it ever happens there will be one hell of a prenup signed and I'll be hiding any inheritance money I eventually receive as much as I can, lol. Plus I'm not a high maintenance girl who would demand a 30K wedding like people do these days. courthouse is where it's at!

I wanted to buy a house but a fixer upper in san diego is nowhere close to 50k.. a fixer upper stilll runs 500k in my area just because its close to schools, church, shopping center, freeways.. so i may put that off until the market goes down just a bit... I still like having to go to work just because I want to.. not because I need to..

Ending up with 3 jobs (didn't plan to) and working lots of overtime also threw me into another bracket. at the end you question yourself it its really worth working hard if almost half of what you work for goes to taxes and other deductions.

I'm single, no kids, have a mortgage and 2 cars paid off. Basically I get screwed in taxes and they take their fair share from me. I normally get 2-3k back a year but we'll see what happens in April. Oregon income tax is insane:/ I'm vested with the State so my retirement with them should be alright, plus I have a roth ira I put 10% of my check per month into.

Geeez, I bought a 4bed/2bath on 1/4 acre outside Boise for under 200k. Brand new, built in Jan '16.

Holy crap. I'm guessing with the extent of the flooding that involves so much improved property it's more than the standard "100 year" flood.

So I guess you get back or at least get discounted (tax) on whatever you can deduct at your effective tax rate.

I like the Roth for no tax on the backend but, not everyone qualifies. Gotta pay our fair share and all.

I waited on a Camry last year with Toyota Safety Sense which NEVER showed up. You'd think, especially with products manufactured domestically, it wouldn't be an issue. One thing about Toyota, you'll play hell doing a dealer trade outside your region so it's either in region or dealer preference. Kinda sux.

It went over 500 year flood plains by a wide margin. My Dad's business used to be in the industrial park I took photos of and he told me that they had raised the floor 4" to be above that flood plain. There was still water in the building; but not much from what his old coworkers told him.

50k is a barley legal livable place that hasn't been updated in 30 years in either the boonies or somewhat bad areas of the city around here. lol.
My brother has flipped 3 houses now and made a decent bit of money off of it. So hopefully he'd help me fix one up to cut labour costs of hiring people.

Oh no its a little better than that here. I know of a trailer park about 10min from my childhood home. You can buy the trailer for $4k and just pay lot dues.
If I paid $60-70k I could find a small outdated but okay house with a good size yard. $80k and a few acres is what you could get.

Tho I have seen firsthand video of one of those trailers burning to the ground from a methlab. Jefferson County, MO. Meth Capitol of the US representing! Haha

Have some family not far from you. They're in Eureka. When I was younger (middle schoolish) I spent some time with my cousin, aunt and uncle during the summer and my cousin and I would ride bikes to Six Flags. Fun stuff when I was a kid.

haha. My hometown is Eureka! Small world.
I just grew up on the outskirts off hwy FF (turn right when 109 ends after the fire station). Take a look back at those flood pics and you'll see.
I did two summers as Six Flags security. man that place gets nuts. It's funny how I'm paid nearly double now to do half the work I had to do there. More individual responsibility and risk in this job though.

Oh heroin is starting to take over. Actually the whole damn country. They're cutting it with fentanyl making it cheaper and stronger and people are overdosing left and right. Have had 2 high school acquaintances die and at least 3 I know addicted to it in the last 2 years. It's really sad to see.
