Head Unit Firmware

Does Toyota ever release firmware updates for their head units, and how do you do the upgrade? I have a 2013 TRD O/R (so no nav).

man i never heard of firmware updates on oem non-nav headunits but if you do find any info on it i would VERY MUCH appreciate it if you let me know! i have alot of experience with programming eeprom's, tsop's, soic's, etc and on chip microprocessors, like atmel, agere, broadcom, qualcomm, etc through I2C, JTAG, CAN, etc. i designed 'lexbox' and mikobu is a personal friend, leave it that i tossed my oem headunit before i got home from the dealership but this is a project i would like to be in on if you do pursue it.

just curious, what kind of glitch are you concerned about?

on a non-nav there really is not much there a few eeproms and i do not think there is even a flashable microprocessor. whats the goal, if there is a hack to do i wantin on it eehe

Yeah there are a few updates, not sure if they apply for non nav. But I did a couple the other day on a corolla and a highlander and it was a USB that plugs into the port for the radio.

 

I am a s/r engr by trade, so getting free rein on a head unit would be cool... if I had more time. I was just hoping to get some of the non-nav refinements that the 2014 head units got.

Is there a link to download the updates anywhere? Then I could just monitor the page in case Toyota does release an update.

 

i cracked it open and took a peek, did not look to interesting so then tossed mine in the trash, wish i would have kept it now, maybe look on the boards to see if there is even any flashable chips...

not sure i can help anymore at this point on it
